  • I've had an mg tf and my mate had an mx5 and for me the better car was the tf. The mg is harder to get the tail end out on as its mid engine and rear wheel drive. The mx5 was easier. The mg

  • behave yourself I've been messing with polo's now for 8/9 years and only ever had one hgf which was due to a mixture of fan switch and temp gauge not working. I have a couple of mates who are well i

Its more to do with me being that disappointed in a TF, to be honest..

I used to be a rover/mg technician.. And we did have a lot of mg tf's in for head gasket failure.. But there is an updated gasket that nearly all major parts factors stock, and everybody I've spoke to has said that fitting this uprated gasket has never lead to another failure

Brilliant little cars to drive, and incredibly good fun, I wouldn't be surprised if most second hand tf's have already had the uprated gasket fitted.. Definitely worth asking, if you see an example for sale your thinking of buying

Hope this helps

The tf and f are 300 cheaper to insure than the mx5 for me which sways me toeards them, the mx5s are nice but i would always prefer engine troubles to the inevitable rust of the mazda

Theres a nice looking red one on ebay for 550 :)

I had the 1.6 K series in a Rover Coupe as my first car and I have to admit they are great little engines, fast for their size, would beat friends MK2 Golf GTi 8V and MK3 TDi without problems

It does bug me how Rover=HGF as I happily owned 2 with the Rover 820 Vitesse being by far my favorite car which I have owned.

Also had a friend who owned a MG TF and loved it so personally I'd go for that over a MX5
