1.3 Mk2 coupe converted to fuel injection, aka 'Fern' :-(

Featured Replies

Well i'm sorry to say that after over 11 years of faithful motoring that this appears to be the end of the road for Fern, taxed till March but MOT ran out on Tuesday. Unfortunately I found a considerable rusty hole at the bottom of the rear sill and suspect a slight fuel tank leak, I certainly don't think it will survive being taken out and put back in again.

Jade Green.

Good points are:

GT seats with split folding rear bench, bolster slightly collapsed on side of drivers seat but otherwise in excellent condition

Coupe S steering wheel

Rev counter clocks

9 Spoke alloy wheels with very good tyres

new radiator and thermostat

MH engine just turned 135k with 5 speed 8p gearbox

converted to SPI so very economical

New top mounts and shocks on standard suspension

new front wheel bearing drivers side

new disks and pads

new brake flexi hoses

brake lines replaced a few years ago

gearbox selector seal changed

clutch replaced about 5 years ago but not done many miles

shoes, drums and wheel bearings all fine

handbrake works fine

stem seals and head gasket done a couple of years ago

cam belt, water pump etc all done

really good replacement sunroof, slightly larger than normal doesn't leak at all

panels all ok except rust patches around front and rear windscreens - got a spare bonnet as well in excellent condition

regularly serviced

starts and runs really well, lovely to drive, feels so light

I also have a grille spoiler, and broken single headlight debadged grill if someone wants to try doing a cut and shut job on it with the one on there.

only other bad points other than the rust are:

rear demister never worked

slight grumbling noise that sounds like its coming from the driveshaft

slightly oily underside of the gearbox

Battery starting to loose charge

Breaking Fern is a very hard decision for me as i've had her for so long, a lot of people will have seen her at shows (she was at polo show this year) but I have to concentrate on Bluey and i can't have two project cars. Ideally i would like to sell her as a whole to someone who wants to use her as a donor to save another one or rescue her, as a bit of welding and replacement tank is all she needs really

I would sell her whole for £250 and you can drive her away or take offers on parts.

pictures to follow

thanks

Liz

Too many mk2's are dying and she isn't beyond repair so thought i would stick with her and hopefully she can do a few more years :-)

Are you still posting the grille spoiler?
