Featured Replies

Thought I'd start thread regarding my ongoing home brew car wax project.

I've been at it a few months now starting from scratch with a a few tips from forums and such!

Pics will follow when I figure it out!

how do you mean?

are you making your own wax? or is this a detailing thread?

I'm making my own wax.

i see, interesting project

whats involved

  • Author

I'm not really one for detailing. 2 buckets and a grit guard and I'll hoover it once a month that's my limit.

I figured I could make a wax that's as capable as the expensive ones. It keeps me occupied after work I guess

you knever know where doing something like this may lead. could end up supplying a few people on here with wax

I'm waiting on a few new ingredients to turn up. Once I'm happy I've got a decent formula I'll offer out sample pots

At the moment I'm trying to replace the turps in the formula as it smells bad and people get a touch nervous about putting turps near their paint

Other than that I've got a pretty good product at the moment

look forward to seeing some pics of the results

Quite a few people do this

It's kinda addictive. Every batch I make the wax gets better the next batch will be with some proper clever stuff and I can't wait to get it made

Sorry the pictures so small. This is where it's at currently the next batch should bead tighter and have a deeper gloss

My new secret ingredients arrived today! I'm blooming excited.

How much have you spent on developing a wax?

Iv never looked into it much, but isn't it mainly about carnauba content?

If so

Carnauba the shit out of it

Done

Ah ha but too much carnauba is unworkable as it really is hard stuff the other waxes and oils make the carnauba workable.

I've spent enough now to have bought a decent pot of wax and provably a lot more but I'm enjoying doing it myself!

Sweet! At the moment I need to do more testing I'm sure I'm there with application and buff off so its longevity I'm looking at now!

And yeah the forums are pretty good until you get past the basic stuff then its gets abit more specialist

Seems Interesting,
I may be up for buying some when your happy with it :)
