Thats fresh paint about two years ago LO41 diamond black, has a really deep colour to it.

these pics were taken when itd been off the rod for 8 months and picked up alot of dirt

the original paint was very flat and faded when i got it, I had to t-cut it and then waxed it a few times to get it to come up right.

I wash the car sometimes by hand and sometimes using a pure water system I have for work. sometimes it gets wax but only in the summer

After dissecting the newest batch I've found it really gritty after the first layer in the pots I've only had this problem after switching to high grade carnauba so I'm going to have to do some tests to fine out why its doing this all of a sudden

I think an extra 1g of beeswax in the mix may help?×!^^!×?$ would bring my nuba percentage down below 70 tho so I'm loathed to do it...

Two more batches and its still too gritty

I've played around with cooling methods today to no avail so tomorrow will be dedicated to adjusting the solvent percentage

I come here to Vent! I curse the word carnauba. So I've tried reducing the carnauba content right down and upping the solvent and oil percentage this has still had no effect on the grittyness of the hardened wax

was your original tests gritty?

No! Its only ever been gritty since the T1 carnauba

Just to update.

New solvent to try arrived yesterday!

Ethyl acetate... carnauba is supposed to be soluble upon heating so sayeth Wikipedia (and I'm honestly not happy with having to resort to wikipedia for ideas)

I also bought a 2001 1.4 se polo in metallic red so I've now got that to test on!

Ethyl acetate certainly clears the sinuses!

would love to test this out, am a tiny bit of a wax whore but iv never really tried home brew. at the moment I'm using dodo juice rainforest rub and i love it. purple haze is great aswell comes up really good on my dads black mk2 golf gti. so would really love to buy a small pot and see how it compares

Dodo juice stuff is awesome and the guys there are brilliant! At the moment I'm liasing with the wax suppliers to make sure theres not an issue with what I've been suppied! As the new solvent didnt work

In the meantime I'm going to research oils! In particular banana. As I've noticed that when bananas are rotting the oil/slime on the outside is really hydrophobic

hey man no need to be hydrophobic lets keep an open mind. water is all the same on the inside

Put on a new batch yesterday with jojoba oil in the mix and I've swapped to a 30-70 T3 T1 mix untill I can research a suitable way of stopping the crystallisation.

Didnt account for how greasy the jojoba makes the wax. I will up the solvents and see how that helps but so far no grit!! :)

Nahhhhh kitchens okay! I'm fairly methodical in that I've got a routine for preparing and noting everything down.

I guess having a lab and some kinda qualifications may help but I works with what I gots!
