I own a 1.0l 6n2 00 plate and the breaks aren't that sensitive, i mean you have to give it a fair push to get much. would you say it was the break fluid?

I'll have a look on Saturday and let you know! thanks man!

Also if the fluid is down it could just be the brakes are worn the further out the pistons then the lower the fluid level. If the on litre breaks maybe your expecting to much is this your first car or second?

This is my second car i own. I have a mk2 golf also and the breaking on that is very sharp and there no need to push hard on the breaks. with the polo you have to kind of pump them, i mean i push once and there isnt much then i push down quickly after and it seems to make them work 10x better. Ill have a look this saturday and see what i find. i haven't driven this on the road but i have driven it about where i live on some private land and my step dad has driven it on the roads and noticed the problem at first.

thanks for the help!

If you have to pump the pedal to get breaks it sounds like you have air in the system or a leak must common leak is wheel cylinders like stated but could be brake pipes aswell. I would bleed all brakes and get fresh fluid around the whole system

BRAKES.

If the pedal feels 'hard' but the brakes are ineffective, the problem is most probably that the vacuum servo is not working (or not working well enough) Rarely is this down to the servo itself, but is often due to broken or perished connections between the inlet manifold and the servo.

If you are not familiar with the above terms, the servo is the big black round thing in the engine compartment right in front of where the brake pedal is inside the car, the master cylinder is the thing bolted to the servo with thin metal pipes coming from it. The vacuum connection to the inlet manifold is the thick pipe coming out of the servo itself.

Regards.
