Hi

I have an 06 plate Polo and the heated rear screen isn't working, Checked the fuse (looks to be 45amp) in the fuse box drivers side but the fuse is OK, the light on the switch lights up but the rear window stays steamed up. Can anyone please give me a few clues, is there a relay somewhere? has anybody got a wiring diagram? a few tips on what to look for?

The easiest thing to do would be to have a quick look at the rear window heater element (the fine element on the window) check for any breaks, also an idea thing to do if you have a multimeter or spare bulb and cable is to fidn the cables going to either side of the element and check to see if power is making its way to the element. the best way to check this would be with 3 small tests. (make sure the heated window is turned on)
1) Heat element + to Heater element -
If above comes back with 12v or the bulb illuminates then you either have a damaged element or a break in general.
If no luck from above test then its time to check your + and - to the element separately.
2) Check between the heater element + and sufficient ground on the car or the - terminal of the battery.
3) Check between the heater element - and a known positive source, for example lighter socket or just the + terminal on the battery.

The switch provides an earth to the Onboard Supply Control Unit there is a relay in this unit that supplies the rear window from fuse #47 30Amp The supply from the relay then goes to a 5 pin disconnect above the C pillar, then into the tailgate, the supply wire is White and the earth Brown, The earth wire is common to the rear wiper and central locking motor so if they are working it's unlikely to be an earthing problem
