Am going to change me gear box oil soon but I want to jack the car up and place on four axle stands, have only used two before on front but wanting four stands as want the car level so can get as much of the old gearbox oil out. So my question is where underneath do I jack the ? allowing me to use all four axle stands ?

you can reach the plugs with it on the ground , if the car is lowered jack it up enough to loosen the drain plug then let it drain stood on its wheels

Yes it lowered , ok job done then what side are plugs on ? advice on filling ?

They are on the passenger side. Make sure you can open the top fill plug before you drain all the old oil out!

You will need a long filler funnel I made one from a coke bottle and some hose but getting a proper one might be better.

Thanks not sure what a proper filler is or should I say who sells them ecp maybe ?

depending on the bottle the gearbox oil comes in it might have its own tube that you can use to fill the box

Oh I see am sure I can sort that out thank you ..manual says 3.1 ltr ? is it best I have a drive round before I drain down ?

just drain it out , you fill untill it drips from the filler hole , as they wont drain fully

But do use at least one axle stand not just a jack - or drive up onto inclined ramps and handbrake and wheel wedges.

Jacking points are marked on the sills with a downwards pointing triangle.

I place front axle stands under the inner track control arm chassis mounting point.

Don't want a jack toppling or giving way with you underneath heaving away on the filler plug.

(17mm Allen from memory or a spare wheel bolt with two locking M17 nuts)

Quick question on jacking the rear of a Mk2F -

Using a trolley jack and axle stands, I've heard people saying about trolleying the rear beam and putting the stands on the arrowed rear sill jack points, or putting the stands on the rear beam near where it meets the trailing arms.

Some other forums seemed against jacking rear beams as it could potentially bend the whole beam axle - is this really possible? Would you have to jack it in the middle to do this (I've been jacking near the trailing arm and putting the stand as close to the jack as I can fit it).

Yeah I jack close to the rear beam mount point . Or more precisely where the handbrake cable brackets are.

The rear jacking points are really only any use for the widowmaker wheel change jack. I always use the rear beam for jacking or axle stands.

Cheers guys. Will stick to near the axle mounts. I started getting paranoid wondering if I'd ever jacked it (or any number of garages over the car's 24 year life) close to the centre before without realising . Guess when I get a wheel alignment check done next I'll know if the rears are reading a load of positive camber lol.
