so not updated for a while been busy moving house and with work

I got this patch in a few weeks ago

And got a few hours in today while I'm trying to find a front end i decided to make a start cleaning out the inside removing glue and poking holes as i go.

Started to cut out the rot on the drivers rear window it actually runs along the window frame about 6" so some fabrication needed. Hopefully get this done tomorrow and where the fuel tank filler runs there is a patch need on the inside.

Also noticed today that because the steel pipe inside the rear quarter for the tank breather

had rotted out the whole back end of the drivers sill is shot and its been patched before so another one added to the list.

The plan for the time being is to weld as i find to save it all building up and I'm going to get the inside steel work clear and cleaned back and remove the seam sealer as the inner sill will need some work on the drivers side.

so cut the small section out

groung back and treated for now I'm going to blast and re treat then paint before making the repair.

and cut this out and welded up

And started clearing all the glue and dirt off and started removing the seam sealer on the seat panel.

so blasted the rear window support and treated before i left tonight.

also got the car turned around and i started on the drivers rear inner sill area,

its pretty bad it has been repaired before bu just welgin a plate over the top of the rust.

i need to drop the rear beam before i do any cutting on the rear end as the rots right up to the mounting point on the drivers side so its going to be fun fabricating the new parts.

so rebuilt the corner of the window frame and removed the strip further down along with splitting the seam to clean out the start of rust.

i just need to get the dremel in the corner to smooth out the welds.

also started on the floor sill area while the rust killer is on the window frame.

I've got a small sandblaster I use but I've also got a cabinet I need to sort out for small bits, and i use kiln dried sand from bnq. I think you can get sand blasting guns you can top load like a paint gun for small areas it may work.

Nice one. I've just bought a Sealey SB993 shotblaster after seeing your success. Will let you know how I get on with it. It was very cheap at £35, plus £20 for a 25kg bag of media.

This looks amazing looking forward to seing it finished. I'm also mid way through mine but mines a mk2 still finding holes at the min so no welding for me yet :(

So not a proper update i had knee surgery at the start of the month and I'm still crippled,

but on the plus side managed to get myself a front panel from Germany, its not genune VW but a HS part and its actually really good quality. Defiantly not a lot left to get for the metal work, I'm just trying to hunt down some one breaking a 2f with a solid rear beam mounting area that they will cut out for me.

i basically admittedthat the welding work needed doing by a pro so the car is with Lee Mcglachie at Auto shack.

hes just started the work and its safe to say he's doing a top job.

So welding all done. picking up the first week of April

wow. Proper rotisserie/spit restoration. This will be better than brand new when finished.

Been some time but the cars now gone to paint.

 

shells at the painters hes had some delay getting it to the blaster for the underside.
should be soon hopefully

shell is blasted and in epoxy, was only blasted on floors inside and out. this exposed a few holes that need some further welding.

also the rain tray is going back in.
