I bought the car back in August 2013, its had 85k on the clock and 2 owners, i am now the third.

It is a Black 6n2 GTi, registered in July 2000, (W Reg)

I have just turned 17 and I am very lucky to have this as my first car, and yes insurance is high but its very respectful for people my age, my cheapest quote was from admiral at £1900, so considering its a 1.6 GTi i think that's not too shabby.

Lots of plans for this car! At the minute I am just going to make sure everything is smooth and in mint order before any thoughts of modificaition at all.

I work at a SEAT garage so tricky and tough work shouldn't be an issue for me, very lucky!

Before I had even taken it to the garage I knew that the drivers window switch was inoperable, also the handbrake needed a little adjustment and the Engine management and ABS light was on. So an investigation on the VAS was in order!

I found out that the switch fault was a broken wire in the door from a previous repair, they used a crimp connector in the door rubbers thank god it was just a wire so a quick solder repair and that's now sorted and functioning properly!

I then started to adjust my handbrake and decided to have a proper look whilst it was in the air, only to find out that my left cable has been snapped! so a new one is on its way for me to fit!

Then onto my engine faults and i found two malfunctions - one was my catalytic converter not quite functioning properly but this isn't a worry for me as I have been planning on doing a de-cat and also it will more than likely just need a clean. My other was an intermittent miss fire in cylinder two The car has been fitted with new leads when i bought it so I hope its just a spark plug issue ( but the gaps seemed to be fine) and not an injector! I swapped cylinder 2 with cylinder 3 and as its only intermittent i'm just going to have to wait till it registers the fault again! in the mean while i hope to find the fault in cylinder 3 so its an easy fix! Also whoever last put the sparkys in has over tightened them to a ridiculous amount fingers crossed

Then I inspected my ABS fault memory to find that my rear left speed sensor has packed in completely and needs replacing! Rang euro car parts and they bought a replacement right away, didn't want to go genuine as it cost £75 from VW rather go for the £10 option But as it got delivered a touch late havnt had time to fit it so thats still on the card but at least its ready to be done!

Just played around with where to park mileage etc like parking on a road is cheaper than locked garage? No sense but it is and I have both my parents as named drivers but I guess my postcode plays a role haha lucky!

A lot of little things have been going on with the gti!

Firstly the new ABS speed sensor has been fitted and is working and also I have fitted the new handbrake cable so I now have a working handbrake :)

A down side though is that the misfire has returned to the fault memory and I still need to diagnose what has caused it so I can get it fixed up because it's definitely becoming more of an issue the loss of power.

Whilst all this is being sorted out I decided to spice up my engine bay! The colour had faded miserably so it needed re doing.

The final product, have to say I have impressed my self! I also sprayed my manifold heat cover the same as the rocker and it just flows with the colour superbly.

Have a lot planned for her just need the money at the minute.

Lucky with the insurance there... Mine costs me 850 with me and other half on the insurance.... Was same with or without her...

I tend to find higher liter cars are cheap to insure... At 18 I was payin 1700 for a 2.3l rs2000 highly modded... Makes no sense tbh...

Yes definitely! i have noticed that in all mate like u guess statistically more people drive low power cars now days, therefore more chances of claims being made on that type of car and most idiot young drivers have a 1.0 and drive it with no respect d. imo yes its a lot of power for a first but i respect that and dont see the need to drive it like i stole it, i love the car too much? Oh and the 1.0 6n2 is more to insure so yeh your point proven

Little update, ordered some new tires, Toyo Proxes 195.45.15 at £49 a piece from demon tweeks! budgets at my work are more expensive haha. Excited to fit them!

Been a while but a hell of a lot of thing have gone on!

First things first i fitted the proxes to my wheels! very happy with them awesome tyres, grippy as hell and for 49 a piece they're the best tyres you can buy!

I then did some "detailing" well a very armature go at it. My car has many chips and scratches as it will because its 14 years old! So at my work place the paint and body tech was doing some cars the same paint code as mine! (LC9Z) so he gave me some of that in a pot and told me how to do touch ups and recommended some wax to help with my spots of damage. Have to say I am very impressed! paint matches a dream and everything looks a lot better than plain white chips. (would upload my pics but its playing up :( )

for a while my EML has been on and my engine has been limited to 5k revs, I discovered that my cam sensor was faulty therefore my engine was in limp mode - so i have replaced this with a genuine one and my lordy lord i am very happy can finally experience the full power of the GTi!

Now on to the exciting stuff. I ordered my self some COILOVERS! finally getting some lows on this beauty! I went for FK AK STREETS. I know their cheap but i just aint care. I want to be low and am I going to be a little whiney b*tch because my cheap as f**k coilovers are bumpy and uncomfortable? nope I'm just gna laugh and enjoy my own stupidity at buying cheap ones but I'm excited to fit them! At £180 I'm not going to moan at all haha! IMO you get two choices - Low or Comfortable. These two dont mix so choose wisely. Any way its like Christmas day for me :)

Cheap coilovers aren't that uncomfortable mine's okay, then again I'm not ridiculously low!

I'm intrigued what will a gearbox rebuild do for me? And yeh I'm not phased by uncomfortable I think it will be fun bouncing about at my own impatience haha

he means u will have to rebuild it because gti gearbox are made of chocolate man so now you have full power it might break on you common on gti to do it just shit box's on them

If you don't thrash it you'll be fine.Mine has 225000 Km and changes gears like cutting butter.The only issue I had with the gearbox was when the official VW center here changed my clutch and did it horrible.Then it was working like s**t and they told me it should be reconditioned quoting 2000 euros!!!!!!!!!!!!! for the job.After a few months changing gears in 1000rpms I got MAD knowing it wasn't the gearbox's problem and went for a fight.They kept the car,saw what they had done,changed the clutch again and 30000 kms after

is still perfect...Don't abuse it m8 and you'll be fine...
