I wanted metallic but id change my mind in favor of an better results. Did you key it and go or did you primer it first? As I've got some rusty bits to tend too

seriously, look into how to get a good even coverage so you don't end up with patchy paint

Why? If you can paint a solid couler well, learning what todo with a metallic isn't too far off.

Otherwise stick to coulers that are forgiving, like whites, light blues, any defects are harder to notice as opposed to say a black.

I sanded the paint flat, didn't primer the whole car.

In terms of rust...there really wasn't any (apart from where the paint had flaked on the arches due to rolling but this was only surface rust). I sanded these parts down, primed and then painted (also primed any filler parts)

A matte colour is more forgiving if you've never painted anything before.

I would highly recommend painting some old panels or objects as a little practice first so you know how to get a flat, even layer of paint, there are videos online that will help explain how to do this also. If you don't get the technique down then you're going to end up with stripy/patchy paint on the larger panels!

Painting a full car with metallic paint from rattle cans is another story, it's almost definitely going to come out patchy, you really need a gun/compressor if you're after a gloss/metallic finish.
