Breaking 16v Polo

Featured Replies

Breaking a 1.4 16v Polo.

Due to to someone pulling out in front of me I am having to break my 16v Polo as it is now a cat C write off.

It was running fine before the accident and is rust free. It still drives fine although the ABS light is on.

The interior and the wheels are not included.

Everything else is up for grabs so here are some prices.

Engine complete with ECU and key for swap - £250.

Gearbox works fine no funny noises just changed oil for fully synthetic - £120

The front and rear bumpers are both damaged but could be repaired and one of the grills is missing £30

If you need anything else please give me a call.

The car is still together so if you want to hear the engine or gearbox give me a call.

I have also done a video of the car being driven so if you want me to send that to you let me have your email.

Car is located in North Hampshire can post most items or possible local delivery on heavier stuff.

Any questions text or call me (Gary) on 07785543499.

Hello,

What about the rear brakes? are they drums or discs?

If discs, how much for both calipers with carriers and cheap shipping to germany?

I'd pay via PayPal.

cheers

I believe these would be with drums buddy, 6N2 polos came with rear discs, but I may just be wrong.

Hi, the front bumper is the common one without fog lights,the grills are the standard ones and are ok if you want them the one that is missing is the thin one top nearside. but I would rather sell them with the bumpers......Sorry

The rear is indeed drums as EvgenijL stated...sorry cant help here either.

thank you

Sorry, but you're wrong.

In the UK some 16V do have the discs and some do have the drums.

Here in germany they always have discs, but in the uk some have drums, some have discs.

cheers

Hi Christian,

Here in the UK we have not had any 6N Polos GTI unlike Germany or rest of Europe, so as such the top of the range model in the uk until 1999 was only available as 1.4 16V thus only with the rear drums as far as I aware but I might,might be wrong. From 1999-2001 we have had rear discs on 6N2's with 1.4 16v (100bhp) and 1.6 16v GTI (125bhp), possibly some diesels like 1.4 TDI.

I personally have a 1996 1.4CL 8V with ABS and have taken brakes of a 6N2 1.6 16v GTI to fit on my car. They work really well in comparison to my old drums. allot of people to such conversion to their 1.4 16v 6N polos as lets face it, who likes to see a set orf rusty drums behind £1000-£2000 worth of alloy rims?

Please do not take it as an insult, I am only letting you know what I know.

Kind regards

EV

Once again....... in the UK some polo mk4 1.4Liters 16V with the damned AFH engine have drums on the rear axle, some have discs.

Believe me.

There are no rules like in other countries.

Here we have rules like for example:

AC on board = bigger Alternator (90A) and bigger battery (61Ah);
Open Air roof = bigger Alternator (90A) and bigger battery (61Ah)(why ever);

1,6 8V = 18mm antiroll bar, 1.4 16V = 20mm Antiroll bar, 1.6 16V = 22mm antiroll bar;

1,4 16V = 226mm discs on the rear, on every 16V for the german market;

cars from 10/96 always had ABS;
every mk4 for the german market has headlight range adjustment....

... and so on.

In the uk there you have different constellations without any rules.

Headlight range adjustment, some do have it, some don't;
ABS: some do have it, some don't;

reardiscs: some 16V do have it, some don't.

I have had so many talks to the polodrivers on the last ten poloshows, there were late mk4 without anything of that, some older had everything, 16V's fully equipted had drums and no abs and no headlight range adjustment, other 1,4 8V base equiptment with abs and headlight range adjustment..... and so on... always different constellations, so real visible rules for that.

I have seen enough british 16V AFH with discs on the rearaxle.

So plz plz plz believe me, there are british mk4 1.4 16V AFH with discs on the rearaxle from factory on.....

That is this year 18 Years of 6N knowledge (bought mine brandnew in 96) and more than ten years on cp forum and ten years on the poloshow!

And thats what i am searching for, plz let me keep searching for that, thx.

cheers

Whats the mileage on the engine? and do you have history for it?

Cheers

Hi, I am afraid I do not have any history on the engine as I only had the car since August. The car has done 108 thousand but the guy I got the car off said that he had just replaced the motor as the previous one had done the head gasket he said that the replacement had just under 90 thousand on it. I have done 3 thousand since and the motor is fine it used no oil or water and makes no funny noises. It is still in the car so you are more than welcome to hear it or as I said I can send the video. The previous owner said that he replaced the cam belt and clutch when it was fitted and the belt looks quite new and I will be able to tell if the clutch is new when I take it out. If you want more info please feel free to call me. ...........Cheers Gary

Hi Cheddarcheese, sorry that is not really enough, I am open to offers however this one is not enough. Although I don't have any guarantee of mileage the engine and gearbox are both fine, and as they are still in the car can be heard running and driven to prove it. ...........Cheers Gary

Thats fine mate just picked up a full 16v for £200 with only 50k miles :)

How much for the wheels posted?

Hi mate,

I'm after the plastic cover that goes over the belts etc - as you're looking at the engine the plastic cover that goes down the left side.

Is it in good condition - looking for one as near mint as possible.

Thanks

Akis

Sorry wheels not for sale although I do have a set of Indianapolis wheels with good tyres if you are interested.

I do not really want to start taking parts of the engine as I would rather sell it complete.

Cheers Gary

hey man, i need the drivers side rear brake drum and stub axle please, how much posted ?

  • Author

Hi Bob, the drum complete with axle would be £20, not sure of postage cost but its quite heavy. I will have to get it off and weigh it to get an accurate cost. ....Cheers Gary

Do you have the engine to ecu loom?

  • Author

Hi, yes I do still have the loom it is still on the car, I imagine you want the whole engine bay loom. How does £20 sound with the postage etc.....
