Big update! Well I think it is.

We got the drivers side seat retrimmed. What a difference! It's actually drivable now! Dead pleased with the results and was half the price others quoted. It's a small place in brownhills who did it. If you need the number I can pm you it. Taking the passenger side seat and my 6ns colour concept seat in the end of the month.

We've ordered a new bonnet. This one had no rust but it's stone chipped to hell so more cost effective to buy a new bonnet. Will be having the red painted first, then the green. The other colours are okay for now but will probably do purple after.

Only thing we've done so far is change the number plates and fitted plate holder so we can get a show plate made up. When we were removing them we noticed some one had miss spelled them as halequin

Not update this in a while. The harlequin is still going strong. Near 170k miles now.

We're planning on getting a lot of body work done this summer, providing my TT doesn't break

Right my dad's finally booking it in for loads of work to be done!

Body work wise:

1. We're having two whole sills welded in and both the arches cut out and re welded. Then, obviously, having all the rear quarters and sills resprayed. Whilst it's in there the front and rear bumper are being resprayed.

2. Then it's having a new bonnet put on and that's being sprayed.

3. After this I need to source a chagall blue door with no rust (good luck me!) and put that on, will probably get it resprayed.

4.The rear passenger door is being resprayed/the wings will be resprayed.

Number 1 will be happening in the coming weeks, probably before the 1st May due to the MOT running out. The rest will happen throughout summer.

I have 4 months off for summer so I'll be repainting all the suspension components and giving the underside a good clean. The engine bay will also get the same treatment.

Interior wise:

*Re-dye the wheel.

*New door pin.

*New window switch surround

*New door seals on the front doors, ours are perished.

Fair bit of work ahead of us! Most of it will be done as and when we get the funds. But the beauty of this car is it's virtually pay as you go! We can respray a door here a bumper there and not worry about the colour match, within reason. By this time next year we'll have, hopefully, a pristine standard harlequin.

There will be no modifications. This is a restoration to standard spec.

Well I hope they're Harlekin badges. They were the right part number just listed emblem and I emailed them and they confirmed they're in stock. Be interesting to see what turns up

First off the badge I order was correct! Here's a picture of it

So happy! Can't believe how faded my old badge is! That was the one part I thought I'd really struggle to find (been looking since I got the car ) But will finish off the car nicely!

Also, the new arches came. Just waiting on the sills then straight down to the body shop for loads of work to be done.

The current arches aren't that bad. But we've had patches welded in before on fords we used to own and the rust came back within 6 months. So we though seen as we're keeping the car for good we'll go the whole hog!

Well parcel force have managed to lose the sills. How you can lose something that's 8 foot long I'll never know

So the project's on hold until the sills arrive.

Woo finally the sills have turned up!!! The place I ordered them from Carz2 was very helpful in getting parcel force to find them and were ready to send out another set. Definitely recommend them, really good customer service and don't try to fob you off when you come into a problem.

Very please with them. Nice and thick metal and have the arrows for the jacking points on them.

Can't wait to see this in the work shop and to see the final result! Always had a soft spot for these too. If I was ever to get a Polo again it would be one of these with a base yellow.

Them new sills, are they cutting the old one out and welding a new sill in?

Can't wait to get work started on it. This part of the work should of been finished by now We wanted a yellow base one but the green's grown on us now

We're getting the sills fully cut out and new ones welded in. Will hopefully last us another 20 years then

How much did you pay for them, if you don't mind me asking? Their pattern wings for the golf are £39 each.

The car's been dropped off at the body shop

Very happy! There was an immaculate VW camper, MG midget, a couple of minis being finished up and a Jaguar E-Type being fully restored there! So Had a good look at the work they do there.

He convinced us to get the bonnet done at the same time as well. So we're having; Front+rear bumpers, both arches welded in, both sills welded in and bonnet done.

Now time to give you photos of all the rust that's getting cut out (those who are squeamish may want to stop reading now )

The person has said I'm free to come down whenever I want to take some photos of it in progress, so very pleased with that! So some in progress photos next week He seemed very enthusiastic about getting it done as well which was good. The other painters I went to looked like I'd ruined their day!
