6N Electric Window Repair/Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I have a problem with the driver side electric window on my 6N.

I have checked and confirmed its not the switch as the passenger side works fine and I tested by swapping the switches over.

I took the door card off the other day hoping to find something obvious like some dodgy wiring but found the foam insert in the way and I didn't want to cut that out without a replacement.

Main thing I wanted to ask was;

1. Is it easy to replace the whole electric window motor/runners?

2. Tips on how to do it by anyone who has done it before?

3. As the door has a bit of rust on there, is it worth just getting a replacement door?

Cheers

When you press the switch for the window can you hear anything from the window motor? Like a grinding sound or something

Nope, nothing at all.

The problem was intermittent and got worse until it just stopped completely.

Have you had a quick look at the cable running through the door?

It's common for them to snap here (happened on mine) and the window will stop working all together.

Try this..

Open your door then slam it while holding the down button on the switch at the same time and see if it works, if it does then your motor is a little siezed

Glad you found the cause of the issue dude :D

I have the same issue however I can hear the motor working when it press the switch but it sounds as if there's sand in the runners..........what would you advise regards diagnosis? Dud motor ? Crap build up in the runners ? I'm hopefully going to have a strip down in the week but any help is much appreciated 👍

It's quite common for the motor to die on these so it could be that, it could also be that your glass is not sat on the clips correctly so worth a look.

Take the door card off/remove soundproofing and lube it all up, make sure it is sat on the runners right and you may get a little more life out of it.

Cheers !
