Hello from Whitstable, Kent

Hi All,

I've just signed up because, well, I'm a dub-a-holic. It's true, I've owned loads of the things including Mk1 and Mk3 Polos. I learned to drive in a Mk2 bready and the cirle of life, as they say, has swung back around again.

My other half is HenryRoger (Well, her username on this board is anyway) and we've recently become new parents, which has shelved our Mk2 project. Not only that, but I've just sold my Porsche as it was about as useless at carrying baby stuff plus baby as a horse would have been. So, that leaves us with two cars, her drop-dead gorgeous Golf (full leather, lenso wheels, air con, etc, etc...) and the Mk2 Polo Country. I'm currently giving the Golf the once-over ahead of the MOT next week but once that's done, if I want to get around any way other than walking, we really must finish off and re-assemble the Polo.

I think there is a build thread knocking around here somewhere but the project did stall somewhat with the news of our little one on the way. That said, we have assembled most of the mechanical bits (including a Mk3 Polo GT lump ;-D) and even got quite a way into the process of stripping the car down. This isn't the first ground-up resto I've done so I'm hopeful to have the car out of it's enforced hibernation pretty quickly now that the rain has finally stopped. I'll keep the forum here up to date with progress and probably be on here scavenging for spares.

My VeeDub history includes a number of small block monsters, the most fun being a Mk1 Golf Driver with a 1.3 Polo GT lump on Twin DCOE 40's and a Mk1 Polo 895cc gearbox. That thing was an absolute scream! Plans for the Mk2 are to keep as visually as close to standard as can be but with plenty of choice performance upgrades so it's capable of surprising many more modern cars.

So, that's me. Glad to be here and actually rather looking forward to bombing about in a Polo again soon.
