I need to wait until I have enough money to buy primer, filler, sand paper, paint and everything I need to fix all the rust on the car. But I'll post all the progress up on here once I start. do you have any pictures of yours? I'd love to see how it turned out.

Heres a few updates.

I found someone selling a door in really good condition for a cheap price so I bought that and fitted it, it saves me having to buy paint for the other one I started prepping.

I have cleaned the insides of the door out on both sides. Before and after:

I replaced the stock open glove compartment for a glove box with a lid:

I got rid of the grey cut parcel shelf and replaced it with a mint condition uncut black one:

I bought some chrome door handle inserts:

And I also bought some Black B pillar trims as my car didn't have them originally and I think it looks much better with them on. I have coated them in linseed oil to "back to black them" and it worked a treat. The bumpers will be getting the same treatment.

That's it for now, my next job is to fix the rust and the car will be MINT. But there are still many more mods to come

Glad you took my advice on the linseed oil it does the job better than another back to black and cheap as chips

yeah linseed is the nuts , I've wasted pounds over the years trying all these fancy trim dressings but nothing comes close to linseed on vw's

Not really much of an update but I haven't posted in a while. I got my number plate where I want it, I just need to smooth the number plate recess now! I also tinted my side repeaters. Just bored really so I took some new pictures.

And I photoshopped some ATS Classics onto it to see what it would look like and I love it! I cant wait until I can afford some!

I also bought all this which I need to install, I need to make some door pods and a custom fiber glass sub box. But I haven't got a clue how to wire it all up!

I got started on making my door pods. I wanted to keep them easy and simple and make them look as stock as possible. I made some MDF panels to go over the door cards and covered them in fake leather to try and match the interior.

First of all I made template out of paper:

Then I copied it to the MDF:

I cut it out and test fitted it:

I then had to shave out a groove so the window winder could move over it:

Got the hole cut and test fitted the speaker:

I then shaved a groove out so the speaker sits inside the wood a bit:

Then I had to cut a whole in the door card so the speaker would fit:

Then I covered the panel in fake leather ans screwed it on:

I've done one side now I just need to do the other. I'm pretty pleased about how it turned out and the wood and leather only cost me £16 in total! Next job is to install the tweeters in the dash where the original speakers used to be, make a sub box, wire it all up and that's the sound system done!

The holes where the old speakers used to be make a perfect place to put the tweeters!

You can't see them once the covers are on and facing the windscreen is the best place to put them to get the best sound.

Next job is to make the sub box.

gunna watch this one mate, always good to see someone doing the rust repairs and cleaning jobs first before getting carried away, love the door cards that you done, they are incredible mate. bet you could sell those to loads of people on here!

i also love the tail light tinting idea but i have a question, does your indicators and reverse light show up correct colour through the red tint?

Thanks man. The reverse light shines through red lol, and the indicators shine through orange like they should. And it's sad to say it but this Polo is now dead :( It needed too much work for the MOT so I am now breaking it for parts

It had problems with the suspension, needed new ball joint, cv joint, track rod end, wheel bearings and a few other little bits, it would of cost me about 400 to fix everything plus it ran out of MOT and TAX and I couldn't afford to get it all done. Such a shame as the car was mint and had very low mileage I'm going to use the money I get from breaking it to buy another car, I really want a MK2 Polo coupe but I'm trying to save money at the moment to get my own place and old cars like that always have problems and cost to much to keep going so I think I'm going to get a Polo 6n or something a bit newer. But I shall DEFIANTLY be getting an old skool polo again one day!

They weren't too hard mate. If you go back a bit in this thread I posted pictures and step by step instructions on how I did it.

yeah that is lot to be honest, well not all old cars are money pits haha, if your very careful and lucky you can find a good one, i would say yes to mk2 straight away to be honest but its even harder to find a good'un, boo for 6n! haha and good to hear, ill look forward to seeing whatever you produce, good luck

Lol, yeah I never really like 6n's either! I need something newer for the time being but I still want to stick with a V-dub! (and i cant afford a golf) lol

how did you wire up the door speakers can i ask as in wires from dash to door
