Hello!

I picked this 1.9tdi up 2 weeks ago and have been slowly sorting a few things out on it, Looks like there really aren't that many 6kv's around,…. whether that's a good thing or not, well who knows lol! anyway - Here it is as it stands:

Interior was fairly tidy on collection, but and a little sticky :s

It's far from perfect but in reasonably good condition,… So far I've given a good service which comprised of:

* Bosch Oil filter element

* Mahle Air filter <had to hoover out the intake that was full of leaves - the filter was absolutely filthy.

* Mahle Diesel filter

* Fuchs Titan Gtlll 5w30 Oil

* Spotted the alternator belt was toast <cracked and worn all around!> so fitted a nice new Dayco belt.

This has made quite a big difference to the comfort and performance of the car, It was certainly in dire need of an oil change. much quieter now + brimmed the tank with good diesel + a bottle of 'Diesel Magic'. Quite a nice drive now compared to how it was!

Little list of things that need sorting:

* Stereo change! currently has an absolutely terribly crap 'Sendai' H.U., so I've got Blaupunkt London 120 on the way, I have a small 100w powered sub, some new 6.5" comps for the doors and need to find some shallow 6x4's for the rear - music is important to me.

*Paint! - Is in generally good condition, but really needs a good machine polish, wax and seal - lots of scratches and marks from what i think could be weekly car washes and dirty brushes. -bloody things.

*Wheels and ride height - I would like some 15's on it, but think 16" looks pretty smart too, and with a small drop, say something like 20-40mm i think it would sit just right.

*dash! - I like the 6n2 Dash, but need a cup holder… why are they so expensive even on eBay?!

what kind of economy are you guys getting from you 6kv's? miles to the tank etc?

Any tips or tricks would be gladly received

Little progress made today, changed over the coolant temp sensor for a GSF sensor - glad to report i now have a working Temperature gauge - always useful eh.

I also received my New Headunit that i won on eBay for £50! brand new! -

very pleased - Though i have had to order a proper cable to wire up the pre-outs - Blaupunkt do a 4 channel cable but my active sub is 2 channel - Can i just use phono splitters to join the four into a single pair?

Really itching to get some wheels sorted hehe! but i think the paintwork is first to get 'fixed.

Well, work is continuing onwards with this,… though as it's a daily i can't get too involved unless it's a weekend.

Sorted a new Electric window switch for the drivers side window,… £23 from VW through work,… robbery!

Fitted my new head unit and speakers, sounds great but i think I'll have to find some good quality 6x4's for the rear,.. the old ones I found have paper cones <from a passat b3> which despite my repairing and lacquering the cones,… are just to muddy and dead. Mac audio i guess is the only way to go as they need to be very shallow indeed… have also sourced a small 150w rms amplifier that I'm hoping will aid me in powering an underseat <passenger side front> subwoofer enclosure…. has anyone done anything similar? This is the amp <i know it's not a premium brand,.. but I don't need shaking windows and broken ear drums….justs some more bass to get over the diesel roar lol>

I'm thinking of fitting this underneath the drivers seat….

The car is running well,.. cruising at 70mph at just over 2k is very relaxing lol,.. my latest tankful cost £51 and got me 550miles having had the fuel light on for about 25 miles… I would like to try and get closer to 600 from a tank but I think it may well not be possible.

I need wheels,… coil overs,.. and an ice hockey puck for the front engine mount

and I scored a new boot lid off eBay, that needs painting.. I have flatted and de-badged it,.. but cannot decide whether to Blank the wiper off or not...

Strangely i love these and they are so easy to make look good. Cant wait to see the progress........

thanks guys! :-) nice to have some comments - I had no idea they existed either… strangely i saw two others last week! I'll find some photos of the boot lid I'm replacing.

Quite like the estates, I got a saloon version 6k polo classic, what's plans for wheels and coils? and is your sump low? the plastic sump guard on my loon is the lowest thing by far scrapes quite a bit, can't go any lower on my coils because of it really, think I need to get a metal sump guard but don't think they make one?

Not sure about the wheels and coils yet, but prosports are only a couple of hundred squids, even JOM's are only 189...,.. so I don't see the point in getting the cheapest TA's or something like that… plus I want comfort as well as lowness… so I need to pick carefully. I'm hoping to find some wheels that aren't BBS, aren't ATS cups, and aren't downright terrible LOL! plans are for 15's but if the right 16's appeared and i could get it to sit nicely on them then i could go that big too. the arches on these 6k polos are mahooosive haha!

my sump is quite low yeah,.. though a hockey puck placed under the front engine mount will give a useful lift without messing things up under the bonnet i.e. exhaust etc.. and apparently takes all of 5 minutes <literally.>

how low is your loon, and what coils have you gone for? any pics?

Hopefullly tomorrow the weather will be good enough for me to get the polishing mop out!

Well yesterday was a success story!

But first,.. I've made up some pieces of wood to create a plinth to mount my small amp on onside of the boot, and on the other side will be a small sub enclosure, built into the side so i can still use the boot without things having to be moved etc… here's the amp side of things… will be covered in black acoustic cloth.

And then i managed to get on with the polish and wax I'd been promising the car - got sunburnt doing this but was well worth it!

After a going over with some mer polish on a rotary tool - i should have taken some before pics

and… after a couple of layers of cheap simoniz wax, a pressure wash and a chamois off,.. it looks like it's still wet!! I'm well chuffed. what looks like dirt on the front bumper is the reflection of the ground!!

So I'm going to invest in some good quality wax now and really get this thing shining.

I should also mention that I've secured the sale of some wheels for her, I wanted something old school,.. but to be honest I couldn't find any that suited the shape of my 6kv,.. so something more modern was found for a kick arse price, sort of OE look i guess,.. but nicer they're 15x6"

all for now,.. bar another couple of layers of wax tomorrow :-)

Well another layer of wax applied <hard work man, need to find something easier to use> then a jet wash and chamois to dry.

Have managed to get some universal 6x4 speaker grills which means I'm able to lift the mounting points in the back with a spacer ring high enough to fit some decent speakers into the back yet still maintain a good OEM look with some careful covering/painting - so I can ditch the old paper coned slim line 6x4's and fit either my JBL's or Bassface's.

trying to find a very light headlight tint film, I don't want to smoke them out <plus it's rather illegal> just tint them very slightly - the search continues.

spray sealants are a like easier to apply than wax, autobrite poject 32 is what I use.

fly eye is what most people use to tint head lights

Don't see many/don't think I've seen any of these modded! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out :)

Hi guys, thanks for the comments, I just hope i'm picking the right things… Things that add up in your head don't always work in the real world!

I'm going to give dodo juices' 'purple haze' a go, a tester pot should last up to about 10 applications if you're good at applying it,.. I've never liked spray sealants, but thanks for the headsup,.. maybe i'll try some if i find it cheap - I'm a fan of carnuba but it is harder to work with. Dodo smells nice :-) lol.

I had a friend that had fly-eye on his bmw,.. it looked good on his car but maybe it wouldn't suit mine,.. not sure - Ideally just want a very very light, i might just leave it as it is!

New shoes have arrived! Wolfrace X-rays, 15x6's The guy I got them from also sent me locking wheel nuts, and spigot rings with the wheels!

all for £50 - the wheels are like they're brand new!

I think 195 50's will be just great on these.

Started looking at Phil J coil over kits… I don't want to 'slam' this car,.. and the sump prohibits this anyway - however, I do think a 40mm drop all round would benefit looks without compromising ride

Finally got some more movement on this, money has been short, but I seem to have sorted things out now and have been able to splurge a little cash in the direction of my little wagon!

* I bought and fitted some Team heko wind delfectors, which are just great, work relatively well and I think the make the car look better too.

* Sourced a set of Genuine VAG Headlamp protectors last week on eBay with a BIN price, so snapped them up,.. have test fitted one and they really smooth the front out,.. I'm very tempted to tint them lightly. Pulling inspiration directly from the car below which is on clubpolo:

Though maybe the tint is a bit too dark for me,.. I'm not sure... I don't want any trouble from plod!

*Still building my sound system into the car,.. I'm after a good double din headunit,... and have bought this Sub for just £50

Looooong time no post!!!!

I'm still here, and still running the wagon. the new wheels are on,.. the wind deflectors are on, the headlamp protectors are also on, I'm also half way through replacing all the vacuum lines for 3mm silicone,.. but having to dodge the rain all the time,.. about half done! hoping it might cure some of the slightly rough running… those cloth braided hoses are horrendous, split, cracked, stiff and can't be helping anything at all.

Other than that, all join well! I WILL return, with photos

Filthy from last weeks driving. I love my new wheels, they are fitted with Brand new Toyo's, and really grip well, not noisy either.

Headlamp protectors found on eBay last minute. Love them, really smooth the front out nicely and give a nice OEM option look.

And my little project, which was to replace all vacuum lines,.. found that my EGR line was never connected and the nozzle from the solenoid valve it attaches to had snapped off. So a new valve will have to be ordered,.. I'm not bothered by EGR deletes really, and would rather the car was plumbed in as intended. Can't tell you how terrible the original hoses were,.. if you're in any doubt,.. just change them for silicone,.. 3mm fits all and will never need changing again.

Not finished doing all the lines yet, but this is where i had to stop once the rain arrived again! <yes my engine bay needs a steam clean>

Just serviced the polo and it's running well,.. change the pollen filter too, nice to have fresh air again,.. it was completely blocked! no wonder the blowers seemed weak!

Still have play on the steering wheel,.. I suspect it may be a U.J. just behind the wheel,.. it's very annoying. anyone know the set-up on these on the steering column?

haha! yeah i just didn't finish it,.. at some point i will get the plastic bags out, wrap the important bits and steam clean the bay,.. it needs it badly.

This tuesday I'm upgrading the injectors on my 90bhp ALH, to some from a 110bhp audi. I was looking at changing the Nozzles to some .205 <this is the 110bhp std nozzle size> nozzles, but then a full set of injectors came up on eBay for £40, so I had to get them! Fingers crossed that will really breathe some life into the car again. 186k is beginning to take it's toll on the old girl, and although it performs how it should,.. I want more speed without comprimising the rest, I've heard good thing about the .205's over on tdi forum, .216 would be too much.

I've also just fitted some gti clocks in the wagon, so far it all seems to work, I need to hook up a temp sender to the outside temp gauge,.. and I'll need to set the milage on them as I've reduced it by 40,000 miles by fitting someone elses clocks hahah! VAGCOM will sort this for me. I do also have an airbag light on now, which i'm hoping is just a stored error off the previous car. My only other concern is that it seems to be a little more hesitant to start now,... however I have just changed the fuel filter - so it could be something silly like bubbles in the lines... fingers crossed eh.

Roll on tuesday, I'll report back regarding the performance increase with the .205 nozzles.
