Front Spring Snapping? How common?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just this afternoon the front driver side spring has snapped clean on the strut ?? How common is this the cat is 2001 on 'Y' newer shape 6n2 I think

What would have caused this ??

Changed driver side shaft only 2weeks ago as that had snapped at the CV joint is this adding up to something??

For a while the CV was making a noise now and again - but never had one go either?

Turning and pulling into drive there would also be a bang or a groan from front of car - so i assume that the spring might have been cracked for sometime ??

Any info would be greatly received.

Many thanks

Darren

Springs breaking are very common the coating comes off allowing them to rust all the shit from the road covers them. Nowadays with the shocking road conditions the under a lot of stress and just give away.

Although not on Polo's I've had to change four rear springs over the last few years on our little fleet. In every case the last turn of each spring has sheared. Kittens didn't die, thankfully.

saves chopping it i guess

Fiesta/Kas/Puma suffer from this quite badly too
