Hi, had my service done friday and iv been told i need new front wishbone rear bushes.

From my understanding its just a crack the balljoint and unbolt. (pretty sure the 3 bolts holding the ball joint on can be used to adjust camber?)

Iv got a press so that shouldnt be a problem.

And i will get the alignment checked afterwards.

Any other problems i might encounter, apart from tough bolts?

Also VW bushes or aftermarket?

I know i should replace all the bushes however I'm strapped for cash atm :(

Replace the whole wishbone as it's quite cheap to do it this way. Buy OEM or Lemfoerder from ECP and do both sides. It's a pig of a job.

Difficult (not impossible) to get the TCA out and then wiggle back in. Made more difficult if on axel stands and not on a lift.

Lots of people have done this themselves on the driveway but be prepared for a little swearing and the liberal use of a large 'persuader'.

Hey, the weather's good. You might as well give it a bash(!). One tip: spend the extra on a quality TCA - the bushes in the cheap ones don't last. I replaced my ARB drop links with FEBI ones and they only lasted 18 months. I've now replaced with some heavy duty FAI Suspension ones which have much better bushes and a more robust redesign (originally meant for the Arosa).

You will notice a much better ride with new TCAs and I would recommend new ball joints and new ARB drop links at the same time too if you can extend to it.

There are some Lemforder arms with bushes on ECP for £42.48. However the ball joints are either £18 or £30 by TRW or OCAP, but i dont have much of an idea what brand is good. I was going to do the ARB bushes at a later date as i can get to those fairly easily.

All depends on funds. Ideally id like to put some Polybushes in, they're just hideously expensive.

TRW better than OCAP (IMHO).

Suggest Lemfoerder TCAs from ECP (remember to apply forum discount). Use existing ball joints.

Get new ARB drop links, new TCA bolt kit (£5, only one kit required to do both sides) and rear ARB mount bushes (£1.50 ea) from www.vwspares.co.uk. Remember that the ARB comes in 18/20/22 mm - check which one you have!

Job done.

febi items will be the exact same quality as OE, you can get what they call a ProKit which will come with the ball joints already fitted which I would say is your best bet whilst the arm is off.

that guide is for the 9n polo, the 6n2 uses a different setup and the bush is inside the arm inself. so just getting new arms is best really.

that said yours is a diesel, so it may well have that setup, i havnt had a wheel off one yet.

if it does then i would use either a poly bush, or a solid one as they tend to wear out quickly

The rear bush is horozontal and the front is vertical. Id like to polybush it but its very expensive and funds are low atm. They are original and now at 52k so not bad going.

The TCA's are the same on petrol & oil burners

lol, i just read what chrisjb330 wrote again, and realised he was describing the ones i was thinking of.

i guess the guide linked above threw me because that was for a skoda which is the same as 9n platform polo, so i thought maybe the oil burners used that setup.

that said does anyone have any thoughts on these?

they are for a mk3 golf, but afaik they are the same? and the price is reasonable i think.

The rear bush is the same but there is no part number listed for the front bush on the 6n2 to compare with the Golf

If you go to that link and then go to their ebay site it lists bushes for 00 onwards Polo's

Floflex are OK but if you run very low without ball joint correction pins they will split very quickly.....

Its a little confusing, iv got 14's on atm so i will need the top product on the right and bottom on the left?

The ball joints are marked as shown in these pics, you either have the R4, L3, or L4, R3 facing forward depending if you have 14" or 13"

I understand, if it runs 13" you need R3 and L3 pointing forwards as shown.

Looking at elsawin, I'm unsure which i have, the 13" or 14"?

Yeah but its the engine specs from elsawin that dont make sense. Some are on both lol. Going to order everything tomorrow.

Just rang VW and they confirmed for a 6n2 1,4TDI 2000 the anti roll bar size is 18mm
