6n/6n2 : Cheap $50 remote central locking & flip key & remote trunk pop mod

Hey guys. I did something really nice and I'm going to share it with you.

First off, you need a remote central locking kit.

I don't know anything about the second kit, but installing the first kit is quite straightforward - black wire to ground, red wire to power then match all the same colors. The actuator with 5 wires go to the driver's door (the extra 3 wires are for triggering other locks when this door is locked/unlocked by key) and the rest go to other doors. It's quite straightforward, you put one of those rods through the hole at the tip of the actuator, then attach the rod to the already present locking rod. You can refer to Haynes manual on removing the door trim, but I just winged it and it went just fine. Here is my passenger door for reference as to how I did mine:

My kit didn't come with the correct key blade for my car, so I had to buy that separately. I got this one and it works like a charm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320923342932?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Attach the blade to the key fob with the supplied screws (The blade didn't come with any screws so I used the screws that came with the remote lock kit's key blade) then go to any key shop to get it cut. I paid like $15 for mine. Then take the original key apart, grab the immobilizer chip, take the keyfob apart and put the chip in so you can start your car. It's been a month, I don't have a picture for how I did this but this is the end result:

For the remote boot pop mod, you use a lock actuator. My 6N is 3-door, and the kit came with 4 actuators so I just used one of the extra ones. If your car is 5 door, buy another actuator from eBay. You need the 2-wire type.

Now go to your boot and remove the trim by just pulling it by hand. There is a rod that controls the latch. The latch opens when you push this rod to the left. Attach the actuator to the trunk door in the retracted position, and the rod to the latch opening rod (just like with the doors) The white thing is a piece of thick plastic I used to fix the actuator to the trunk door. My kit only had two of those metal strips with 5 holes on them; so I found a promotional windshield ice scraper lying around, cut it in half and drilled holes to screw the actuator in place.

Test it by moving the rod with your hand. Make sure the actuator retracts back by itself. If it doesn't (mine didn't) the spring to the left of the picture is what pulls the rod back; I took it off and reattached it halfway to make it stiffer.

Extend the wires to the inside. I did a real ghetto job; I think you could use the rubber boot that carries the wiper wires but I didn't care so this is how I did it.

Ground the green wire. There's a ground point behind the tail light, as shown in the picture.

Now your trunk will pop when there is +12 volts on the blue wire. Carry it over to the front of the car and connect it to, well, whatever you want. To prevent accidental popping you can hook it through a relay on the ignition or handbrake switch. I connected mine to a leftover push button from a previous owner's alarm install. You can do the same; or if your remote central locking kit has a trunk opener output (mine doesn't) hook it up to that output and you have remote trunk pop :)

So this is how I did a cheap, easy and truly DIY keyfob/central lock/trunk popper install. The whole thing doesn't take more than a few hours. If you have any questions, just ask. Cheers !!
