How much should full repray be theres like four small dints to fill and repair around the lock.

I only ask as I've never looked into body work priceing.

Body shop across road from me says cause its solid colour it can't be blown in is this true?

Its tornado red so solid colour i thinkn no Lacquer wether that makes anything differant.

Anything enyone recomends doing while i get it painted like future rust protection preventative stuff.

all you can do it get quotes from places where you trust thier work

prices will go from £500 farm yard blow overs to £5000 show car inside and out jobs

for a really nice job done right you wont get much change from £2000 , maybe lower it a bit by removing all the trims and fixings yourself

edit- there will someone along in a moment to tell you they got thiers done for £125 and it looks amazeballs

I need some fred in the shed who used to work in a body shop whos retired and wants some holiday money....

If i had the time id have a bash my self but the outlay on a large compressor and some where to do it would be just as bad.

yeah decent materials will cost a fair amount - best just ask around localy and check jobs theyve done are up to the standard you want

U can still use normal basecoat & laquar on solid coulers.... Its exactly the same.

I preffer doing it that way.

Why do need a full respray if you only cut through in 1 area? Whack some pics up.

If the rest of the paint's okay you shouldn't need a full respray. But usually body shops want to do a whole side if one side panel needs doing, to help it not stand out.

I've just done the same on my car. Well the velcro came off with the pad and the backing plate hit the paint and scuffed it But it was the harlequin so no colour match needed, thankfully.

well needs full flick as i touched up some bits on all the pannels then i wet sanded them down smove then went too much theres too much paint gone all over.

+ needs some small dents sorting on the swage line

The general thought is £2000 for a respray.

But if you're confident in prepping it for paint a self prep paint job is a lot cheaper. Just remember that the prep before paint is the most important part and dictates the finish of the paint.

Yes i recently got quoted £3k to do a Mk1 Golf cabriolet, decent body shop that would door door shuts and in the arches.

I popped in and had a long chat with a paint supplier, his opinion was that he knows people that could do it in a back alley garage, £500 cash with no receipt, all the way up to £6k's worth of show winning finish.

Taking all this into account, i'm having a crack at it myself, its not gonna be perfect, but it will be awesome to learn in the long run for future projects.Just under £200 for the paint and materials, i just need to buy myself a gazeebo

I'm looking to get my golf done too, would love to change to yellow but I'd want to do all the shuts and bay... So for cost reasons just a blow over in the same colour will do for now!

if you done all the stripping and fitting. And all you need is someone todo the body work (unsure of what's wrong with it?) it wouldn't be too bad as youve saved them a lot of time.

You'll just need the capabilitys and space todo such work.

Another option is plastidip. It's not a permanent fix but it's cheap, adds scene points and when a 'professional' does it, it looks okay.

£600 quid back hand job in a decent bodyshop by the main sprayer.... full outer flick in base and clear inc filling a few dents seems good deal too me.

That's true, that's a big chunk of the labour rates.

I'm considering doing all the prep work myself, there's just a few dents that need soring, abit of surface rust, but no rot so to speak. Apart for the famous wiper blank area.

That doesn't faze me, I studied Body and Paint at college, not that means a great deal, but I'm confident. Did enough work on my beetles body

Space isn't a issue either. It's just I think I'd rather go to work and pay someone else to do it.

A. I'm sure someone who does it day in day out will achieve a better finish.

B. for a quicker turnaround, as it's my daily, thankfully I can walk to work so it's not essential.
