I've made some more progress on the rat. I've mainly been focusing on the front end of the car for now.

I wanted to smooth the number plate recces on the front bumper so I took it off to find and unbelievably rusted and fucked crash panel:

So I bought a new one....

I also re-rusted the bonnet by grinding some of the rust of in random places then leaving it in the rain again, now it looks all patchy which I think looks pretty cool:

Once that was sorted I started on the bumper.
I started rubbing it down:

Then I plastic welded up the tow bar cover:

Then fiber glass filler:

Then filler:

Filler rubbed down:

Then high build primer:

After sanding that down did the matt black:

Now it looks like this:

I also added more rust to the door which has dripped down and I think looks pretty cool:

Also got a new mesh grill which I won on eBay for 99p!

Oh and I also dented the shit out of the wing:

And here are a few pics of the whole car and how it looks now :)

I have also painted the outer B pillars black and installed a decent sound system. Thats about it for now. I love this car so much I'm having so much fun with it!

Let me know what you think :)

I think what gives rat look cars a bad rep is where people get a cinquecento, throw a pot noodle on the roof and spray rat on the side or whatever, I think almost any car could look good ratted if its

  • Get some clear lacquer on that bonnet dude.. Am sad still the mk2f has gone

Never really a fan on the rat look but this looks ace! Great work on that front bumper but i think you should respray this car!

Well done.

That front bumper looks spot on

Thanks! I was never really a fan of a forced rat look either, but I wanted to take the challenge of making a rat that actually looks good. So far I'm pretty happy with what I've done, Now I need to focus on the other end of the car. And that bumper was A LOT harder than I thought it was going to be and it took me bloody ages!

Wow...

What a way to ruin a car.

The most recent addition to the bonnet looks much worse than it did beforehand.

Edit; That wasn't meant to sound insulting, I just meant that the bonnet looked better partially ratted.

Yeah a few people have said that. I prefer the full rust though tbh

This is how shes looking now. Hazard tape on the windscreen, single wiper kit and I removed the grill as it looked too nice and clean ;)
