Not a dicky bird. The car only got there last Thursday so I guess it's still early days. I am tempted to pop in later this week to see how things are progressing though. I'll let you know :)

I had the car come home today on a low loader. I could've cried. The paint is fucking horrendous. I sent it straight back. Gutted.

What was really bad? All runny or something?

I only took one pic and you really can't work out the issue when you look at it. Problems are down to the shear quantity of clear coat. Orange peel over most of the fiddly bits (where its harder to flat and mop I presume), but the worst bits are the sags on both rear quarters, one of which runs from the back of the car right up to the door. Not a happy chap right now...

I hope you get a discount for them having the car longer or something...that sucks

sounds like they tucked it in the back on got on with the important work and then knocked yours out when it ws quiet.

get the pait fully repaired, you'r paying for a professional job. if they don't want to then go to the small claims court instead

Sorry to hear about the shonky paint but if they have hosed too much clear over it, it can be wet sanded and polished which a lot of shops do anyway. Black is unforgiving at the best of times though - kick up a fuss though.

Its dark metallic blue Vic, a couple of shades darker than yours I guess. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a good wet sanding and a polish will have it right, but the waiting will kill me….

So going back in time a little, here are some pics of the car having the sill repaired and the primer coats prior to top coat...

When the car was returned after paint the first time I was gutted. Especially with the huge sags in the clear coat either side of the car. It went back and spent another couple of weeks having the paint corrected. Finally the car came home and while the paint still wasn't to the standard I wanted, I accepted it. Lessons learned?

1. You get what you pay for and while not cheap, I should've paid £500 more and gone with a local guy.

2. Be ABSOLUTELY clear what your expectations are. In writing preferably.

3. Do not pay a penny until you're happy.

4. Be a proper hard nose c**t. Its your money and its a business transaction. Sob stories don't count.

Anyway, I started to build it back up...

Photos always make these seem better than they are. The car looks reasonable but the paint finish is so variable it just pisses me off. I'm a bit of a perfectionist I guess. Anyway, I'll live with it :)

I personally probably wouldn't notice even in person lol, my colour vision isn't exactly perfect, you've done a nice job of the sill and what not anyway and the car is steadily looking better!

Cheers, its nice of you to say so. I've got a few little things left to do like the sill covers, fix the brakes and put an exhaust on then it should be off for an MoT. I'm looking forward to driving it :)

I was wondering what you were referring to when you mentioned whire stripes but I can see it now. The strips on the bumpers are actually chrome but I guess they do look white in the pics...

Ahhh, yeah they do look white. Chrome would be cool. Did you make them up yourself? Or can you buy the inserts?

The chrome inserts are standard on these, same with the insert that runs around the front rear screen rubbers.

I thought the screen chrome strip was only on earlier models. I do like the chrome touches, but it's so hard to get saloon ones (especially the early rear ones) in good nick. Paint does look good, and yo're right to be pissed if you're not happy with it but I guess there's a limit to how long and how many times you can get them to do it again.

Seems that MK2 Polo front struts are a bit of a PITA to get off, and that big nut holding the insert in, don't get me started! Anyway, I got them off, got the inserts out and sent them off for vapour blasting. Have a look at the before and after pics below. The after is bare metal ready to be painted. The guy that does the blasting does alloy engine parts for motorcycles and recommended the paint I'll be using. I'll show y'all another pic when they're re-assembled. Thanks for looking.

How did you get the nut off for the insert/dampener, big grips?? Doing mine at the end of the month want to know how much of a ball ache it actually is
