I thought the screen chrome strip was only on earlier models. I do like the chrome touches, but it's so hard to get saloon ones (especially the early rear ones) in good nick. Paint does look good, and yo're right to be pissed if you're not happy with it but I guess there's a limit to how long and how many times you can get them to do it again.

Nice example though

The chrome looks good, I like it. I think the screen and bumper trims were on the CL saloon but not the C. The windscreen trims had gone yellow and brittle by the time I took them out and snapped into pieces. Finding new ones was a PITA but Ebay came up trumps in the end :)

How did you get the nut off for the insert/dampener, big grips?? Doing mine at the end of the month want to know how much of a ball ache it actually is

Can you see the blue Stilsons on the work bench? Thats the tool you want. Forget the big pipe wrenches, they're crap. The Stilsons get tighter the more pressure you add so won't slip. Stick a piece of pipe on the handle to increase the leverage and its a doodle. Good luck with yours :)

This looks mint, cant beat classics on a polo! especially a loon!!! I really want one now ahah

Cheers Joel, I'm loving it too :)

  • You're right of course dirtydubs, I'm always a bit slow with the updates! I do have good reason though. I gave up on trying to weld to a standard I would be happy with and decided to find someone to t

I've got my grips for pushing brake calliper Pistons back, I know it's Dangerous to use head on struts if they have gas filled dampeners but I was considering doing that[emoji23], going to spray everything up in jungle juice this weekend

Its been a busy weekend. The brakes had disappeared while everything else was being done so I changed the master cylinder, bled the system and they're back again (still as shit as ever but they work)

Next up was the timing belt and water pump. What an absolute ball ache of a job. That on its own took most of the weekend, the internet had little to say and the Haynes manual was useless. Anyway, I got it all changed without breaking anything and now its running beautifully. The old belt was lose and rattling against the belt cover.

I also got a centre section and rear box from the local motor factors. As mine is a saloon you might be able to guess the problem. They even had the reg number to work from...

I also re-fitted the black plastic sill trims after thoroughly sealing the holes before it went on. As I'm not refitting the rubbing strips, I thought the car needed something to break up the side view so I put a silver pin stripe down the side. Seems to do the job.

Yes!! First MoT for 22 months today. Looking at the the new certificate, it tells me the car has travelled a massive 507 miles since the 27th September 2007. Lets hope its gets a bit more use from now on. Just a drop of VED next :)
