Aidangw's 1.4 9n

Featured Replies

Hey,

I recently bought my first car, an '02 1.4 16v 9n. It's surprisingly had 7 previous owners (I'm the 8th). It had 63k on the clock when I purchased it a month ago, now just over 64k. It has a couple of scuffs on the paintwork and bumper trims on the passenger side that I'm planning on sorting in the future but overall it's pretty tidy.

I'll list what I've done to the car so far, not much, but far from done :)

- LED sidelights and white headlights

- LED numberplate bulbs

- LED interior bulb

- Alpine CDE-102 headunit

- Front black VW badge

- Debadged the rear (removed the Polo and 1.4 badges)

- Stubby aerial

- Smoked side indicators

- New reg plates (maybe gonna get pressed plates in future)

Plans:

- New rims (17x8s coming later this week :D)

- Coilovers

- Rear lights with smoked indicators

- Back window clubpolo sticker

- New centre dash fascia

- Colour coded mirrors

- Colour coded body trims

- Colour coded door handles

- If I'm lucky, a Votex bodykit

- Fog lights

- Rear black VW badge

- Fob central locking

The cars had a fair bit of work done on it mechanically before I bought it - here's the invoice

Sidelight comparison, LEDs are so much brighter in the dark

And the most up to date picture minus the stubby aerial which I fitted today. Will update with more pics as I make changes

  • Cars back coilovers are all the way up at the moment, doesn't seem to rub anywhere but I'm gonna lower them a bit more soon - also need to find some good places for photos

  • Progress is slow, been looking at pics from UD and I'm really wanting a votex kit more and more - also need to start doing some more on the interior as it's still pretty much standard. Seen a girl on

  • Thanks man, yours is sweet too! Little update, got the wheels on today but the car is misfiring :( possibly the oxygen sensor, getting it replaced this week

From the look of the photos it looks like you could get away with lowering springs rather than coilovers. But with coilovers you always have the choice of 'MOARE LOWZZ!'

Best colour VW ever did! Miss my 6n2 that was this (or very similar) colour :-( Looks super clean as well.

to be honest I don't know a lot about springs or coilovers but thanks for your advice :D I'm edging more towards springs right now, still needs to be driven everyday so I don't want it extremely low but that mega archgap needs to go

Haven't really done much to it recently apart from cleaning it multiple times for it to get covered in grit instantly...when pay day arrives coilovers are being ordered. Gotta lose that gap

And the most important and cheapest investment on the car yet...

Hey Man, you can get them off ebay. Some go into the 2 cup holders or you can get a universal fitting one. Your choice. Here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Black-ABS-Adjustable-Car-armrest-for-VW-polo-9N-9N2-9N3-After-2000-UK-/251463077440?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a8c5e0e40

yeah, you just take out the part that fits around the handbrake with the cup holders, clip in the new one that comes with the armrest and then screw it down  but there are other custom ones like Flakers said that just fit into the original cupholders

Hadn't thought about it but I'll try and book it off work tomorrow then I'll come, and no updates yet - spacers next payday possibly. Weathers been crappy down this way so haven't had chance to wind it down yet - though it went for it's MOT today and passed with one advisory :D

Looks spot on with those wheels

Good to hear man! just try and make an appearance, pretty sick day!
