Seems a bit of an odd question I know, but my misses slid in the ice a few weeks back and hit the kerb (sigh), it bent the lower arm quite bad and i've changed that.

What i'm after though is if some one can take a picture of their passanger side steering arm from the engine bay as a birds eye view sort of thing. The reason I'm asking is because there steering's still to pot and the bar does look a little bent in my eyes, but I want to know if it's meant to be like that or not?

It's a MK2 Polo Coupe S

It does have a very pronounced curve on the pass side steering arm to clear the cutout on the inner wing. Check your inner wing carefully for creases or cracks where the chassis leg welds to the bulkhead. A small knock can knock the chassis leg out of kilter.

Edit: Sorry, meant to say Drivers side has a bend - pass side is the straight, adjustable one.

The curve's on drivers side not the passanger side, the passanger side is straight but it seems a little off straight, which is my problem.

I shall check out the chassis legs though, cheers for that!

The drivers side one does have a curve in it as standard.

They are pretty cheap though so I'd replace it just to be safe as that side isn't adjustable.

Passenger side should be dead straight. If they take a knock, its normally the rod end that takes the damage.

Yeah I thought it should be to be honest Yeti, I just wanted to check. No the track rod end look fine to me, it looks a little bent where the steering arm threads are in the centre of the engine bay

I would get your geometry measured. No harm in replacing the steering arm if you are unsure if it's damaged, they aren't particularly expensive.

Can you get hold of the whole arm easy, I'm talking from the threaded bit with the bush from the centre of the engine bay all the way to the track rod?

Yes, the drivers side will always be the whole assembly because it is all one piece. Only the passenger side has separate threaded parts for adjustment. Have a look on ECP or GSF.

I think everyone is getting confused here, I know the drivers side has a curve in it and is one piece - That side is fine.

It's the passenger side that had the damage.

So I'll need the threaded bar and what not. I'll try GSF though and see what they're saying.

I'm not sure you could get a new passenger arm complete, i would look to find a decent used item, then get a new track rod end and fit that as an assembly.

As said too, get the tracking checked afterwards.

Yeah i've looked around a few places and not managed to find a complete arm. I will hunt down a second hand one!
