Polo 1.4 CL Open Air - Spares or repair

My Polo regrettably ground to a halt last week and is offered as a possible project or donor car, basically for free to any Club Polo member who can maybe make it live again and is happy to bear the cost of getting it off the Isle of Wight.

Despite its disreputable appearance (VW's wonderful peeling lacquer!),this is fundamentally a sound vehicle. I have tried to keep the important bits up together and can provide a full service history for the last four years. I know somebody in

Good bits:

• New shock absorbers, coils and top mounts all round fitted last year. Handles, steers and drives very nicely.

• Body panels pretty sound with no dents or major rust.

• Working Open Air roof. Starting to split at the rear fold as they all do; one side is patched and the other developing a hole but there is no evidence of leakage.

• Electric windows are a bit sticky (especially passenger side) but work.

• Central locking.

• Good alloy wheels with life left on the tyres.

• Space saver spare and intact toolkit.

• MOT until June 2015!

Not so good bits:

• The engine has had a partial seizure, the opinion of my garage and the RAC man being that the top end has been starved of oil due to a blocked oilway. Though it starts and runs, it is no longer drivable and sounds like a bag of nails.

• Noisy gearbox especially in fifth. Possible mainshaft bearing on way out.

• Paintwork (see pics)

• Split along seam of rear seat. This is repairable.

• Missing spray nozzle for rear window washer.

The car is currently at a garage on the Isle of Wight, where the RAC man left it, and will need to be viewed there. If you are interested let me know and I can arrange something.

The buyer will need to trailer the car . Please don't ask me to break for parts as I haven't the time or space to do it.
