Rule changes: Sending money through Paypal as a gift....

Featured Replies

From this point on - any one placing an advert asking for payment as a PayPal gift, be they a private seller or a site sponsor is no longer allowed.

No matter how trustworthy anyone may seem on here. We strongly recommend that you do not send money to them using the PayPal option to send as a "Gift" or "Personal Payment Owed".

Doing this gives you no protection at all as a buyer. If the goods do not show up, you will have no recourse via Paypal, and you will not have the seller's full details, only their email address.

Sellers do this to avoid paying PayPal fees (less than 5%), but this technique is also used by scammers to hide themselves, and less than legitimate businesses to deny you the protection PayPal gives you as a customer (for example - returning faulty products, getting a refund if the item does not show up).
