A little bit off subject - but not a lot!

What people often refer to on articulated vehicles when the trailer finishes up somewhere other than intended, is 'Jack-knife'. This is due to the fact that locked wheels will always attempt to get to the front, hence with 'jack-knife', it is the drive axle wheels that have locked up.

Often reffered to by the same name, is a condition which should be called 'trailer swing', this is where the trailer wheels have locked up and are making their way to the front.

There are devices on the market which claim to prevent these conditions (a bit like stabilisers used on caravans) but when a fully loaded trailer decides to move to where it shouldn't be, it takes a LOT to prevent it from getting its own way.

The car is my daily driver and on the town I work there's a lot of uphill old stone roads and when I had the rear tires at the front they would slip like crazy.

With the new ones at the front I never had a slip on those roads and I wanna keep it that way :p

The reason for saying "never fit better tyres to the front than you have on the back" is simply that its easier to recover from the front wheels sliding than the back and that directional stability from the rear tyres needs to be stronger than the steering pull (trying to change direction) from the front tyres.

If you can drive within the limit of your tyres and are sure they will not slip (you're braver than me) - then there is no reason why you cannot have better tyres on the front than back. Just remeber that if the front starts to slip then the rear has probably already gone.

Recording the tyre size on the documents is a real pain - we are lucky not to have that in the UK. Is it just size that resricted? I was in Germany during the 80's and my bike was allowed only two specific makes/model of tyre and only one size.

Everything is restricted by the car papers even window tint over here.

My car only has 155/70R13 on paper but I'm running 165/70R13.

If they are just a tiny bit wider they wont complain but if i would go for the g40 measures 185/60R13 I would get a ticket and failed Mot.

Half a week after the new springs in I have started to notice that the steering seems a bit loose at speed. I think I should go for the Arb blocks to correct it. And will also get the new tires as soon as i get paid :p
