Yeah, if I knew about the leak I would have replaced the tank ages ago.

Just a quick update. My car passed its MOT after fitting a replacement fuel tank so I drove it the 26 miles home from Perth to Dundee to give it a shakedown. It was fine on the way home but then in the morning on the way to work, the selector rod ball disappeared and left me with only 3rd and 4th gear. That was a fun drive to work.

Bloody volkswagens. Who would own one?

Well it's been pretty good so far. It feels slightly underpowered so I'll have a look into that. I'm going to keep the amber indicators but everytime I see my friends black coupe with clear indicators I wonder if I've made the right choice...

I also had a SVAG flyer left on my window on Monday by a student who owns another mk3 polo. He also wrote that there was a local meet at Halbeath park and ride that night. Luckily I checked on here before I left because the note was a week too early!

Well its been a while since my last update due to holidays etc but here goes...

The polo Social at Billing was a great weekend. Scorching weather, cars and booze all combined perfectly. I met up with some old faces and was introduced to some new ones. The warm nights in front of Ross's wood burner whilst drinking rum was great!

After the Polo Social my mate Grant and I headed down towards Lands End. We decided to take roads that weren't on the motorways because I'd never really explored that end of England before and I'm so glad that we did! We stumbled upon a small racing circuit called Silverstone.

We got speaking to a guy who owned one of the many premises at Silverstone about his friends Ford GT40 that had just left. During our conversation he happened to mention that all the F1 teams had arrived the day before to set up for the British Grand Prix this coming weekend. So not one to miss an opportunity, we decided to try our luck at the security gates and see if we could get in to have a look around. Here are some tips to get past three security check points:

1) Be confident.

2) Act like your supposed to be there. (Not easy in a 24 year old Polo filled with camping gear!)

3) Don't stop at check points, just give a small wave and a nod at the security guards as they step out of the way to graciously let you through!

After our trip around Silverstone we passed that hill with the big white horse on it and Stonehenge on our way to Cornwall. We managed to get to St Ives and I was not prepared for how brilliant the place was! We managed to get a room at an old pub called the Sloop Inn. The pub was built in 1312 and served brilliant food and the staff couldn't have been better. St Ives itself is a beautiful port town and I will definitely be back! We had mussels, steaks and lots of booze. I don't think I had the same drink twice that night.

The next morning we wandered around St Ives and had an obligatory Cornish Patsy and Cornish Ice Cream. The beach there is stunning and it's a shame that my phone ran out of battery so that I couldn't take pictures.

Anyway, our next stop was Lands End:

In the above picture you can see a man walking away in a high-vis jacket. This is an employee of Land End (£5 entry each) who came running over whilst screaming and bawling at the top of his voice with his face turning red and his finger in the air shouting "YOU CAN'T TURN AROUND! YOU CAN'T TURN AROUND! GO THROUGH THE ENTRANCE! GO THROUGH THE ENTRANCE!"

I explained that I was only getting a picture beside the sign (there was nobody behind me so I didn't think anyone would mind) so I though that might calm him down. I was wrong.

"THIS IS A ONE WAY SYSTEM! YOU CAN NOT TURN AROUND!"

"I'm not turning around. I'm just getting a picture beside the sign here. I'll only be a second or two."

"GO THROUGH THE GATES! THIS IS A ONE WAY SYSTEM!"

"I'm just getting a picture. Chill out."

At which point he stomps away shaking his now purple head. After I got back in the car my mate said that he called me a "Bloody Tit" as he was walking away. Charming behavior from someone who works at a family tourist attraction.

I also done the rather geeky move of paying to have my car in front of the sign:

After Lands End I wanted to hit the most Southerly point in Britain: Lizard Point. It was scorching there. I think that day was the hottest June day for a decade. We took our time there and had lunch in the most southerly cafe in Britain.

We started heading up the road and decided to spend the night in Stafford. In the morning we went straight up to John o' Groats. When we stopped in Perth for fuel I heard a small rattling noise so I thought I should check it out.

My alternator bolt tried to make a break for it! Luckily due to the clever design of the highly efficient race who created the Polo, it wasn't going anywhere. A quick nip up with the ratchet and we were on our way again.

We got to John o 'Groats at around 7pm and it was baltic! What a difference from having to drive with the windows down and the sun cream on just that morning!

Now that we had traveled between the two furthest points in Britain we picked up a couple of souvenirs and headed for Dunnet Head, Britain's most Northerly point.

Now that we had done the two furthest points and the most southern and most northern we decided to celebrate:

The car was brilliant and never gave me any trouble (Except that alternator bolt) throughout the 1,995 mile journey. I had a brilliant week away with my mate Grant who I'd like to thank for keeping me company otherwise it would have been a pretty boring trip. Next year, I plan on doing Lowestoft to Ardnamuchan Point after the Polo Social. The most Easterly and Most Westerly points in Britain.

Wow that's one hell of a road trip round England fair play 👍 though I'd of turned the car round just to piss that security guard off then turned it around again to go the right way 🙈🙉🙊

Yet another wee trip for the polo. Steven (Kwijibo_coupe), Ross (Citrus) and I went to our local drag strip for a bit of fun. Crail Raceway isn't as slick or as well looked after as Santa Pod etc but it lets you have a play about with the car.

Anyway, I'll just throw up some pictures with some descriptions along the way. Enjoy!

This is a guy I know called John who turned up in his freshly finished mk2 Fiesta. 2.0 Zetec with bike carbs and LSD. Still managed to pull a 15.31@92.4 mph on 135/80R13 remoulds!

This is Steven going up against a 13.5 sec Forester. Steven managed to shave nearly a second off of his G40 times by replacing it with the turbo. He got it in the mid 14's so a pretty good result.

From here it's mostly random pics and the show and shine.

The dog, desperate for attention, seeks another human who may show it affection rather than the contempt shown by Steven.

These are my times in the GT. Only mods are panel filter and cat back exhaust.

A quick wee update. I bought ARB blocks for the car. It came with one original bolt and three replacement bolts. The replacement bolts weren't up to standard suspension strength so I had to order some 12.9s off of the bay. 10.9 would have been fine but I don't trust 8.8s on suspension. The new bolts are a bit longer as well so that the body of the bolt is all the way through the blocks metal insert.

M8 80mm. I got them on eBay from a company called kayfast1.

I have finally fitted spacers to the car! I think it needs dropped a tad more to be sitting just right.

Does look better with spacers, do think it would look better dropped a touch. Not too much, but then the ride height would look perfect!

I still love this car.

I've not got any interesting news. The project is pretty stagnant just now. I've removed the cat and adjusted the tracking. The wheels were toe in by almost two degrees! On the drive home this has made a surprisingly large difference to the way the car handles and turns in. I should be going to Crail raceway this weekend to see if the de-cat and Golf gti air flow meter make any difference.

Looks stunning mate, one of the nicest GT's I have still seen to date in my own opinion, I never liked black polos too much or black cars for that matter but you and kwijibo have completely swayed my opinion to the point that if I had a coupe it would have to be black!

Very original and the second picture you posted looks like it would go well in the calendar too.

Any other future plans for this?

Thanks very much. My favourite colour is difficult to choose. Black, tornado red, white, arctic blue or either of the greens are great colours!

I've got plans but they're out there in fantasy land. I would love a G40 one day. An original one with light mods. I'd also love a rear engined polo. I'd like to go JDM on a polo and give it a kanjo style but I think that's going to far. Some thing like this for example:

So to summarise, no. I have no plans, just big ideas.

I went to Crail again on Sunday to see if the de-cat and Golf GTI air flow meter made any difference. No is the simple answer. If anything I was slower than the last time.

I think the track was a lot cooler than the last time I was there and that impeded my 60ft times. I'm not a fan of doing a wheel spin before I go down the strip because the is a daily driver with soft engine mounts, however I did it on the last few runs and my times dropped by 0.4 of a sec.
