Hi, I've got a mk3 Loom and clocks in my Mk2 Coupe, I've checked the plug on the back of the clocks and its the mk3 multi pin plug, which would never fit on to mk2 clocks.

I prefer the mk2 clocks so would like to put them back in, but don't know what to do regarding changing the plugs over, is it possible to cut off the mk3 plug and join up the mk2 soldering it in place?

Has anyone done this? Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks for that, although all I'm finding are posts where people are asking whether its possible to fit mk3 clocks into a mk2, which is what i already have. I want to know whether mk2 clocks can be adapted to work on a mk3 loom? Because the multiplug on the back of the clocks are different.

Has this been done before? Don't really wanna be changing the loom just for the clocks. Surely there is a way of chopping off the mk3 plug and joining a mk2 plug?

It's a bit of an odd one and you might find it easier to put the mk2 loom in but if you want to give it a go i'd start by checking the haynes wiring for the mk3 (2f) loom to find out the colours and uses of the wires for the plug. If you don't have a haynes i just happened to find this today http://www.volkspage.net/technik/manuaisecatalogos/02/haynesrepairmanual_polo86c90to94.pdf Hopefully it'll load for you. Warning lights and gauges are on 12:13

Next you need what i couldn't find online wich is either a mk2 wiring diagram for the clocks or a pin lay out for the plug to compare what wires will connect up fine and what might need some extra work. With any luck someone on here might have a link for one of those. I would try myself but my mk2 haynes wiring diagrams make my brain hurt.

I would just put a mk2 dash loom in and save yourself the hassle.

You need to add in a couple of wires to run the fuel injection pumps (I assume you're running fuel injection), splice in the fuel gauge wire from the lift pump wiring to the mk2 loom and run your own wire from the coil to the clocks for the rev counter.

Certainly will be a lot easier than going through diagrams and rewiring the clocks completely.

Check out Mark_Crox's build thread from the early days of Huyi, there is a nice little explaination of what you need to swap.

you can always take apart the old loom, and remove only the wires from the speedo plug end to end, then run as a separate loom, leaving the later wiring intact.

this way you have both plugs and no cutting needed.
