1980 Inari Silver GLS

Featured Replies

I've moved this thread across from the Mk1 Polo Forums as its a bit more active over here :D

okay so here we go....

My 1980 Mk1. I found the car on eBay. It's been off the road since '93 so it's gonna need some work

I'm looking at a full resto. The car runs and drives (on choke for now) all the trim and interior bits are all there. It just needs (a lot) of welding :D

Here's an update. I found an early grille on ebay and got it shipping over here (for a small fortune no less) IMG_4697.jpg

A Bay we've been working on a work is finally off the ramps so we got the Polo in the air to see what i was dealing with.

GOOD NEWS! The floors look solid and there doesnt seem to be any major surprises. I took a pretty big victory in the fact the car didnt fall through the ramp :D

Firstly i pulled the original grill and bumpers off. I'm planning to make this into an early looker with an early grille and chrome bumpers.

The front of the car had been covered in spray on underseal so wirewheeled the front of the car to remove it

the cars had a pretty bad patch put here. Theres also some pretty obvious patches on the sills but i have new panels for that so it all okay

IMG_4704.jpg

I cut out the patch and found some rot on the inner panel too

Thats all been cut out now and a repair piece has been made ready to be welded in place

I noticed some rot in the rear valance does anyone know if these panels are readily available anymore ? IMG_4719.jpg

Found a set of NOS wings on eBay (thanks to CJ Dubs for the help)

They've been offered up to the car and fit perfectly. There's a small amount of welding to be done on the inner wings but I'll upload a few pics at some point.

It's been a long while since i updated this thread and lots has happened. I've been squirreling away in the back of the workshop on days off trying to get the car looking good again

The Air Ride Struts are Fittied and I'm happy the cars sitting right

The Right side of the car has had the rotten inner and outer arch removed and replaced. All lining up correctly and looking good !
