Hi Folks

Having constant ABS issues with my car. A summary is below.

ABS Light was on constanly when i bought the car with 00283 error for front left sensor. I found the old sensor snapped in the hub, so I put a new one in myself and ended up with an intermittent light and 00283.

I then had the sensor replaced by a garage with a genuine one assuming id done it wrong and the same problem continued.

I then temporarly bypassed the abs loom from the sensor to the pump. This imporved things but the light still came on but only very occasionally. I then had the loom properly replaced with a vw repair kit by a garage. This hasnt fixed it and its now coming on slightly more than with my temporary loom.

I've come to the conclusion its probably a faulty control unit.

Do these need coding if i buy a used one? Is there something I'm missing?

Its had:

New Sensor

New wiring from sensor to control unit

ABS Fuse changed

ABS Connector cleaned

Tone ring cleaned/checked

And I still get intermittent 00283 errors.

Hopefully that makes some sense to someone because is ruining an awesome car at the moment.

Have a look at this http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=312683it's not for your fault code, but others have fixed sensor related faults using the method shown in this link.

In theory you do need to code a replacement unit, but if your getting a used one from another Polo it should be just plug n play

Am I right in thinking it needs a reverse torx to remove it?

It looks like a normal torx from this pic ???

Bolt control unit onto hydraulic unit. Observe specified torque: 3 Nm.
