Warning light and code P0170...

Featured Replies

Afternoon team,

I've just about searched every corner of the web looking for advice on this.

I have a 1.4 polo x reg and the engine check emissions warning lamp is on, code reads P0170 (generic) and the engine is running rough at idle (jumps about) I've found some info which relates to the break servo vacuum pipe, the pipe is new and shiny ! Fuel consumption is also up.

I've scanned the frequently asked questions on here and can not seem to find a solution,

If some one could put me on the right path or offer a solution I would greatfuly receive it.

Kind regards

Andy

First thing, When was it last serviced properly to include the fuel filter? Then I would check all the vacuum rubber pipes connected to the inlet manifold & throttle unit, as they are known to split/perish over time, I have the same series of engine in my Ibiza and the RED pipe had a 1" split in it

Thank you for speedy reply... Serviced in February this year, I will check the fuel filter and those pipes tomorrow and get back with how it went.

Many thanks

A friend of mine had this fault code come up in his Golf a couple of times after clearing and it turned out to be a faulty MAF sensor.

(But obviously, as Nige said, check all the pipes. That's hopefully a worse case scenario!)

While you have the filter box off to check the pipes, would be a good idea to clean the inside of the throttle body above & below the butterfly flap with some spray carb cleaner & an old toothbrush, also spray clean the MAP sensor it's on the cambelt end of the inlet manifold ( two torx screws & don't drop the "O" ring )
