Aliright, thought i would register as I've read the forum a bit thanks to google searches trying to fix the polo.

I'm Ian, 32 and live in Aberdeen but I'm actually from Bath, moved up here for work 8 years ago and most likely moving back south this year. I've had a few VWs over the years and currently run about in an 06 Caddy DSG and have a MK2 golf GTI 8v that i've had since i was 18. I picked the polo up for £200 around christmas for the mrs as her eunos roadster was pretty useless at getting to and from the house in the snow we get up here in winter. It was advertised as "needing a fair bit for MOT" and it stank of damp dog. It's a 1.4 TDI so cheap tax, cost £96 to add to the insurance and does a genuine 600 miles to a tank. My problem is that i can't just leave things alone and seeing as the van and mk2 are ticking along quite nicely, this has become a budget rolling project.

She got named britney as she had peaked around 2001 and really let herself go over the years, anyway heres how it looked when i got it...

It needed a lot of work for the MOT. Complete front suspension (the only original part left are the strut retaining nuts), complete brakes all round and most of the lines, full exhaust (i just welded the cat), 2 outer CVs. 2 ABS sensors and an airbag. It also would not change from 4th to 3rd so i've done the gearbox and while it was out i might as well have changed the clutch. Then it was MOT time and it passed with one advisory

I had the interior out and Vaxed it to try and get rid of the dog smell and nearly passed out using the space heater to dry it while i was fitting the £15 gumtree DAB head unit

It still stank so that interior went in the skip and i found a full GTI interior for it.

Thats pretty much how it ran for the last few months but i started getting a little click happy on eBay. Bits for these things are quite cheap compared to the Caddy or the Mk2. So i found a GTI grille, £3.99 red stripe for it, a front bumper which wasn't glued together like my one and a complete tailgate from a GTI as the rear washer had clearly been filling the boot up for a number of years and it rusted inside out. (the GTI badge came off after the pic!)

Then i spotted a complete heated leather interior for it, again, compared to sticking decent factory leather in the Caddy & Mk2 this was keenly priced...

This is how it sits now

Bought a £10 towbar for it yesterday (thank you gumtree) gave it a hammerite refurb. I think thats it for now this side of some 15" steels, lowering and some bad taste tints and a carbon roof wrap, who knows

cheers! the body's a bit scabby in the usual places so i guess a little bit of paint is next. Tow bar is on now so its become nearly as practical as my van!!
