I cant believe how long its been since i last updated this thread, so here it goes!

Shortly after the last post on here I met up with Tom who you all know and we had an awesome photoshoot at Lego Land! (where else ). it didnt take them long to kick us out, but I still managed to capture a couple of decent shots. I have a couple more on my mac at home, Ill upload them when i get to it.

So, after being kicked out we then moved to a small hardly used area

We then move on to Edition (which was only a week later)

I then sold the schmidts due to a couple of reasons, and had to buy some steelies, which I'm not a fan of to be honest... and i got caught with my Harlekin Umbrella

and I bought a Jap spec tailgate and got that painted and on!

Thanks to a friend called Marcus, I purchased a private number plate!

and I'm making a lego version!

That brings me back up this week where I bought another set of wheels a set of 4x100 Melber Penta's which are really hard to find in the stud pattern. Most of them are Mercedes pattern

and Yesterday I finally got the Hybrid bumper on it!

Haha, Thank you :) I'm going to try to keep this a bit more updated!

I'm off to Germany in a couple of weeks with the Harli, and I'm taking it back to its Birth place at Wolfsburg

so, it seems I've been slacking a lot again lately with the updates. I've got to get myself into gear and update it more often instead of doing bulk updates

Here we go then... so, not long after making the lego number plate, I had to go out and give it a test right?

I also got hold of a Hawaiian number plate from Edition 38, which i'm going to be running at shows, probably along with the lego one on the front. I also put the rota's on, as they are 15's and give better fitment than the 14" Penta's

By this time it was Ultimate Stance, where I met up with Rob (and it was Alienface's final show). We got a pretty good spot, which was outside the main entrance

It even got a photo in PVW's Magazine

The week after Ultimate Stance, I had booked up to go to Wolfsburg, which is Harleys birth town. I went with my mate Tom, and we did the 1000Km trip there in a day it was very long but it didnt skip a beat... It was lovely having cruise control!

I managed to find a couple of other Harlekins around Wolfsburg

I also stumbled across some cool places to take some photo's. Unfortunately I forgot to take my proper camera, so I had to use my phone

And made a few friends while I was there

On the way home, the Dutch border control pulled me over, and inspected every nook and cranny of the car to try and find something to pick up on, they couldn't find anything but they were not happy with how low the car was. They said 'For Dutch roads, this car is not okay... But because your English, there's not a lot we can do' It made me chuckle a lot. As soon as I was let go, I made sure i got away as quick as the 1.4 8 valve would take me (which inst very haha!)

I managed to source another ABT Grill while i was in the UK, but the seller wouldn't ship it over, so my friend Collin, who lives in the Netherlands got it for me and I picked it up while I was there

I also met up with a good friend who moved out to Germany earlier last year with his girlfriend, he broke down so we had to stop and get it going again in a service station with limited tools haha!

Unfortunately, It was then time to come home

Since then, I haven't really done a lot with the car. It made it into the Club Polo 2016 Calendar

I went and got a couple of pictures

And the council didn't announce that they were going to be digging the road that I live on out, and when I came home at lunch time I got beached on the dug out road and it caused a lot of drama

I had to go home and get a tow rope!

And I got a mountey Harlekin steering wheel for it

and that pretty much brings me upto now again, where it sitting on my drive waiting for some wheels to go back on, so I can get it down to the unit and got the engine swapped!

I've got this 6n2 GTi lump with an Eaton M45 supercharger to go in When that's in, Ill have to send it away to have a stand a lone ECU fitted

Brilliant stuff, looks like you had a great trip and it's good that the car held up well throughout

Engine plans look very tasty so I'll be hanging about to watch that happen :)

found a harlekin in a garage about 20mins from me and am thinking about inquiring about it

Soooooo... as promised here is an update of whats been going on this evening.

First off, I was supposed to be doing the engine swap in my garage at home, its enough for a single car with a fair amount of working room around it. Unfortunately, my dad keeps his bay window camper in there, and due to the weather deteriorating over the last few days, he didn't really want to follow up and leave it outside for a few weeks as planned to give me time to do the engine, which I can completely understand. So, i was down my friends unit explaining this to him, and I said as a joke that he should let me have a space in there to let me get the engine sorted, and he thought I was being serious. I bit his hand off at the opportunity and this evening drove Harley down there (which is about 2 miles from home) and got cracking taking it apart.

First of all, we got him into the unit

The next Job was to get a cuppa on the go And no, thats not a haribo egg in my tea its just the reflection of the light that was above me haha!

Then, I thought that it was best to tackle the drive shaft bolts, which I've been dreading for months knowing that they are rusty to hell. Although with a spray of WD40 and a huuuuuge breaker bar, I managed to get them undone!

The next Job was to take the air box off to take the cruise control setup off, which will be being used again on the GTi engine

Lastly, I took the battery and the battery tray out

This is how he now sits, and will be until I can get back up there on Saturday morning.

its been another couple of busy days working on the harli, First job was to get it up in the air so I could start taking the pipework off and all of the front end

It took longer than expected to get the front end off. I've never worked on anything with Air Conditioning, so that was fun!

I've even been having a bit of help from a few mates

There next job was to take the exhaust off

All the pipes/electrics are disconnected, so its tome to get the lump out!

But not without getting a quick picture with the new lump in shot

Next job was to get the subframe off... I didn't know that there was so many small differences between an early and late 6N. The subframe needed changing anyway because i wore though the original one The only problem is that it meant spending the night in a muddy field taking the frame off of my mates 6n, but it was definitely worth it so i can keep cracking on tomorrow!

So now the cars ready for the linkages to be changed and the new frame to be put on. I've got the day booked off of work tomorrow so I can carry on with the work

Todays been one of those days where all I've wanted to do is jump in a hole and never come out haha! It started off very smoothly, the first job was to do the linkages, so I got to work by dropping the exhaust off and then taking the heat shields to gain access to the bottom of the linkage.

If anyone doesn't know the difference between the early and late linkages, here they both are in a picture. The later linkages are on the top and the early on the bottom

So with those swapped over it was time to get the exhaust up and the heat shields back on, this went fairly smoothly too, apart from mis placing one of the clips for the heat shield, but this was found a couple of hours later. Then it started to go down hill from here. The next job was to get the subframe attached which was a simple case of bolting on. The next job was to bolt the steering rack onto the frame, which did not go well at all. The first three bolts went in fine, but when i was tightening up the last one, it snapped in the captive nut. Typically it was the bolt in the most awkward place, which was sandwiched between the bulk head and the frame. I spent around three hours trying to get the little bugger out, it snapped a couple of drill bits

after the 3 hour mark, i thought that it would just be more simple to drop the frame back off again and see if that got me anymore room to work on it. Fortunately it allowed for a little more space, which i tried using mole grips to spin the bolt out. It worked for a few turns, but then got stuck. fortunately it turned out not to be a captive in the end and those couple of turns allowed the nut to slide out of its captive position in the frame.

Then it was a case of putting the frame back on yet again, and then bolting the wishbones back on and being very careful with the rack bolts. Ill try to be less heavy handed in future

Now that this is all bolted back together its time to prep the lump to go into the bay... Finally! or so I thought. The previous owner had decided to take all the internals of the air con pump out that was on the GTi block originally and cut it down. It still needs to be there for the way that the auxiliary belt runs around. I didn't really want to get rid of the aircon as i see it as a cool feature to have in the 6n as the harli had it on the 8V anyway. So i took the pump off of the 8v lump but it turned out that the brackets were a slightly different width so the pump wouldn't go on.I set off taking the bracket off of the 8v engine and putting it onto the GTi. The swap went smoothly apart from the alternator being a bit resistant going onto the new bracket. After doing this it turned out that the tensioner is different on the GTi to the 8v, which means that I have to take it all back apart again to put the correct tensioner onto the 8v bracket. At this point I gave up for the day. I'm taking a couple of days break and will start working on it again on Thursday.

Oh and to top the day off, i found a rather large hole in the underside that I'll have to weld up at some point soon... Although i suppose its better for me to find it than be shocked when an MOT tester points it out to me

Just another quick update this evening, I went back down to the unit tonight to get a couple of more little bits done. I started off with the brackets, as that was the only thing stopping me from getting the engine into the car. I unbolted the alternator at the bottom, and pulled it up just enough to get the air con pump off so i could get the bracket off of the engine. Once that was off all that was needed was to unbolt the tensioner and tap it on the back with a hammer to shock it out of its position. As soon as the other tensioner was put on the bracket I bolted it to the lump.

Now was the fun bit of trying to get the lump into the car! It took quite a lot of moving about in the bay as its quite a lot bigger than the 8v.

It didn't take too long though and it was in

It would be rude not to mock up the intercooler pipe wouldn't it?

I know its a little messy with pipe work and wiring at the moment, but ill be sorting that out over the next couple of days. Most of getting rid of the wires will happen when it comes back from where the ECU is being done

Next job is to get the dog leg mount on, selector shaft back on then the drive shafts on, the most fun part will be making the pipework fit with the slam panel!

Thanks man! I'm going to be going for megasquirt to begin with just for the cost side of things. I'll probably head for emerald when I've got the funds as I've heard some really good things about it

Thanks buddy, I love the sound of a supercharger I think its better than a turbo haha! Ill be at the polo social again this year amongst many other shows no doubt

So, Its been another busy weekend working on the polo.

The first think that I wanted to do was make sure that the core support fitted properly before I went any further. so I went to mock it up against the front end of the car and instantly realised that the radiator was too big, so I took the rad off, went home and got the rad that was on the GTi's core support which I kept, thank god haha! and then put that on to the 6n's core support.

so, with the smaller rad on, the air con rad wouldn't fit on, so I had to cut the mounts down and find a way to mount it.

I mounted the rad, but ill get back to that later. I then tried to get the front end back on again and found that it fouled on the charger, but only by a very small amount so I had to cut the core support out a little

After I made that cut it fitted well I've still got to do a tiny bit more cutting on top of the support but nothing major.

I've still got to cut the metal crash bar out to fit around the intercooler pipes, and I've got to take a notch out of the bumper so it doesn't foul

I feel that its making some good progress now. The only problem being that one of the power steering lines was rotten and trying to source a LHD one for under £200 is proving to be difficult. I'm sure that ill find one though!

Only a quick update this evening as i was only down the unit for a couple of hours.

First of all I spent a little time taking the broken banjo and bit of remaining pipe off of the steering rack which proved difficult with the engine and subframe in the way! I am taking it to a fabrication place tomorrow so they can quote me up making a custom pipe, or maybe being able to fix the old pipe as its only the end thats snapped off.

The next job was to plumb up all the water piping, which had me a little stumped to begin with as the way it runs is slightly different on a 6n2 lump than the 6n lump that was in there originally, but after sorting through the old photo's on my phone and using google images to help me out I managed to find the way it went, which meant cutting a couple of pipes, but that wasn't much of a problem really.

I also got donated a K&N air filter by my good mate Josh this evening which really smartens it up a little bit

The only two things that are really holding me back now is the power steering pipe which I should hopefully have by the weekend, and the fact that I've misplaced my cable throttle body somewhere in the garage at home and because I don't know what it was from as it came with the engine when I bought it, I'm really struggling to find another one. I did get a 2.0 8V mk3 golf one as I was told that they fit fine, but unfortunately it was too big to fit on, so any help on this would be great!
