What's That?

A 1984 Austin Mini 25 rolling/road legal project who goes by the name of Robbie.

What's Special About The Mini 25?

Based upon the Mini Mayfair, the 25 was put into production to celebrate 25 years of the Mini (shock!). The 25 has numerous additional features:

A black leather '25' steering wheel, a grey velour interior with red accents, rear parcel shelf speakers, 12" wheels, disk brakes in stead of drums like many Mini's, pop-out rear windows, a high-ration 4 speed gearbox, grille with a '25' enamel badge, "special" decals and black/grey plastic trims as opposed to chrome ones. Red seatbelts and a 3 clock dash were also additional features, however these were removed to go in another 25 and have been replaces by black belts and a 2 clock unit. 3511 25's were originally made and according to HowManyLeft (not accurate but gives you can idea) there are 128 on the road today.

Who Would He Be Good For?

Anyone.

I’d guess he’d be good for a first-time Mini owner or a young person who wants to get into classics/older cars and wants to get a foot on the ladder in something they can actually use as a car and not just something that sits in a garage – insurance is dirty cheap tbh and he’s pretty good fun to drive!

About The Car

From what I can gather (I've only had him for a few months), Robbie has spent a lot of his life off the road (covered 47k), being passed around and prior to this year he had not been in service since 2007. Back in May, Robbie completed the London to Brighton covering a few hundred miles in total, since then he has been in service doing "daily driving" duties and helped me move back from uni. Prior to his, Robbie had a fair bit of work completed to get him back on the road and make him structurally sound and was only returned to the road because it was deemed to be too much of a waste to rip him apart for spares.

The Good Bits?

Well, he's a road legal (MOT 2016) and usable rolling Mini project, meaning that you can use him and make repairs as you go or take him off the road if you feel like it. Being a special edition means he's the perfect candidate for a full restoration back to his original glory, or you could put your own stamp on him and style him completely differently - he is a blank canvas!

Robbie has had many repairs and new parts over recent including: new front shock absorbers, rear Spax adjustable shocks, hi los camber brackets, a pretty much new subframe, a full underseal, new brake hoses, a new clutch hose, a new master cylinder, a full service, new gaskets, new headlights, a head gasket change and more. He could also do with a new water pump; the current one works fine but for peace of mind I'd personally change it - a new one will either be installed prior to sale or will come with the car when he goes to his new owner.

The Bad Bits?

He's a Mini and that means rust! Now, largely he's okay is this area (he won't disintegrate any time soon) though there are a fair few bits of surface and a couple of more substantial bits that will require attention, such as the scuttle, this will need to be chopped out and have a new part (available from MiniSpares) welded in.

Also, as you can see, he's pretty tatty; his front wings were brand new patent parts a fair few years ago but the owner then never bothered to paint them so they haven't held up the best and are starting to look a bit orange in places. His paintwork has things stuck to it in a few places (tape, splattered sealant/paint), I may try and compound these off and make it look a bit better but currently that's how it is.

His heater cable has seized and he will eventually require a new heater matrix as his current one has been known to be a bit leaky.

In terms of things he's missing: the original GT 25 clocks, red seatbelts and black plastic mirrors, chrome grille surround, the covered for the seaming (I have no idea what they're called but will illustrate a photo if you're confused as to what I'm on about).

There's also a slight blow where the exhaust meets the manifold (came up on MOT). I tried to tackle it but don't think it has sealed properly, so will either do it again before the sale or give the owner a new clamp so they can start over with it.

There may be some other bits to add to each of these sections but currently my mind has gone blank.

So, Why Am I Selling?

I'm a student and when I bought Robbie I severely overestimated my available time, money etc. So I'd rather sell him on to someone who will make use of him and improve him as he doesn't deserve to spend his life sat rotting away. I'm pretty sad about it but it's for the best right now.

Maybe but I'd rather not. Truth be told, just money is of greater benefit to me right now but I will look at swaps offered to me. Part-ex would only be considered if it involved cash my way.
