MartinB it made the last 20 miles on the back of a tow truck after my nice replacement 8p gearbox sort of died..Bit of a bang and had no 4th/5th Also had a rear shock mount give up the ghost so had the cow bell ringing in my boot for 50 miles.

  • Went and met some other GT engined Polos this morning Fun day out to fit an engine with wizardmanjm

  • There can't possibly be anymore issues! -.- lol As I've done all the work apart from actually refurbing the gearbox, I still stand at less than £1500 for all the parts and including buying the car.

  • Quick update, will be the last for a while as there's no planned work for it until next year. New master cylinder fitted this afternoon and now have brakes again :) gearbox was fitted this morning as

That catches reliablity and stops it attaching to your car

should have posted lottery numbers instead

Mate, if I had done the lottery and euro millions instead of buying this car I'm sure I'd be relaxing in the med somewhere by now

Original interior is now out for the time being whilst I work out a suitable modification for the front seat frames to lower them an inch or so and make them sit back further as well.

The difference in colours across the seat, head rest and rear seat squab is NOT the light that is how dirty and sun damaged they are :( never realised they were so bad so time to get the fabric dye out :D Looks even worse in person camera makes them look better!

Also the temporary interior from a mk3 gti golf :) Is a great fit and comfy as hell!! Back seats I've made a couple of brackets up so the back stays in place.

The gearbox will be coming out, AGAIN next week when I have time to swap it back over. Having a sneaky suspicion the rear main might be weeping and giving me clutch judder exactly as I had in the bready.

I like the old seats pattern quite a lot, I would like to see pictures of them lowered to see how it looks.

I love the old seats, they're just too high for me, I've either got to crick my neck to have my legs straighter or knees bent which kills me and neck straight XD

Ill more or less have them refurbed completely as long as i can work out a mod for the frames

Wish a Mk2F GT would pop up near me for £300! I've seen one Mk2F for sale in Cornwall recently, and it was a badly modified 1l that someone wanted £1500 for.

i have a coupe for sale not a gt but a 1.3 5 speed

So another update which has taken its time to happen.

Just a quick pic of how it stands currently, with a sneaky appearance from my 850 and MGA :D

I moved house recently and to save costs of a van, both my Volvo and Polo turned into vans for a week which involved both sets of rear seats being completely removed!

The Volvo behaved perfect being loaded to the roof with some pretty heavy stuff. However the demons in my GT struck again.. XD

I might have slightly loaded it... 4 bags of sand and 9 wheels... But on that trip I had a bit of a clunking and rubbing noise . Exhaust snapped! However the baffles in the back box stayed attached to the pipe so it didn't fall off :D Which led to a "Get me home" fix of the century for me.

Ofcourse this how now been replaced with a standard OE spec section.

A week after moving I felt like the rear suspension was bouncing somewhat. And yes a leaking shock.. Whoops, don't whether I overloaded (probably) or the cheap ebay parts had given up. It also leans to one side!! so I think the springs where just cheap nasty cr@p.

So I've just gone all out and bought some parts with quality to replace the cheap ebay stuff I fitted.

New front + rear springs

New front + rear shocks

New rear wheel bearings

New alternator belt (awaiting arrival of a new alternator)

New top mounts

New top mount nuts.

Busy weekend!!

Finally on this update, I'm away all next week so dropping into my mates garage for, ANOTHER 8p gearbox as the CEH is doing my noggin it, and clutch

Engine strip, New sump, New big/small shells, New conrods/pistons/rings, Head rebuild/new valves lifters/seals/Recon Cam. Head skim (if needed) And the obligatory gaskets and cambelt/water pump...

This is because at the end of April I'm driving through Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway to get a freight ferry back to Immingham from Gothenburg. Over the course of 14 days as that will be my holiday this year :D

So I will do a travel thread for that so you guys can watch my progress :)

Hopefully the next update won't involve something breaking!!

Just an update on just how good a daily this car actually is. In the last 9 days I've racked up 380 miles going to an from wizardmans playing with engines. Then 430 miles going to Bristol for the week and coming back at a rate. And since I had the engine rebuilt 2.1k miles ago, up until this Sunday it's used just over a quarter litre of oil, for a 25 year old motor I'm not complaining. Love the thing just may need to wash it soon as I've been asked if it's grey or blue..

I just hope mine can be half as good as that! If it can do a trip to newcastle and back then that's job done!

Yours will be fine mate :) Its had the magic pikeytech touch so will be perfect (once its running) Youve seen how much abuse mine gets loading it up with engines and gearboxes with the ass on the floor or lop sided because I didnt think about sticking an engine in the drivers side of the boot -.-.. Then hooning around the country in it. Pretty sure yours wont be treated like mine is :P

So today has been pretty damn good already! :D

Took it for MOT and passed with two advisories: O/S front tyre close to limit and a bit a rust on the body :)

IMAG0645_zpsr8sggzwm.jpg

I also had a look through what was in the glove box, as I have never looked to see what was in it since I bought it apart from when I chucked my satnav in it!

Found all the original manuals, original dealer book with all the delivery details when it was first bought and also SERVICE HISTORY from new until 2008 with a odd year missing. Well chuffed. I shall be continuing the service history and getting the book stamped :)
