Polo 9N3 dashboard tray, no hinged lid.

If anyone's removed the small tray in the top of the dashboard please provide some tips on how to remove it without damaging the plastic dash surround. A photo of the REAR of the tray would be great, it will show the grippers/hooks that hold it in place. I think it ought to come out using just fingers, no tools necessary, but its firmly stuck in place.
