My Polo coupe Hobo was officially dead yesterday 😔

So I jumped straight onto the forum and found this add

Vw polo coupe genesis for sale.

1.0l four speed in red.

Currently has MOT till the start of February 2016, failed on bottom control arm on last MOT, but has been replaced.

Car has been lowered on new springs and shocks 60/40mm 12 months ago, the car drives and handles really good.

Currently sits on Pirelli p slots with four very good tyres, front two replaced before last MOT.

2 years ago the head gasket started to go, so had that replaced, had the head skimmed aswell. Also the water pump and belts were also changed at the same time( which was at around 80,000 miles)

Body work is pretty solid but does have some rust spots and could do with some attention.

So after few exchanges of text message me and my girlfriend jumped in her car and went on just over and hours drive to Cheadle, Stoke on Trent. Handed over £300 in cash and came back with Oboh 👌😆

It actually has MOT till March 2016 and the head gasket, cam belt and water pump was done in 2011 at 60,000. Also after a look threw previous MOT certificates turns out the cars had a fair few new parts to pass every MOT including all new brake lines last year. So think I came away with a bit of a bargin

Plans are to start stripping my other Polo Hobo tomorrow to pretty much a bare shell and transfer everything onto Oboh ready for next years show season

At the min they are both parked outside the house next to each prob pissing the neighbours off but I don't care as there both taxed ✌️😉

Yeah I'd seen those but hadn't known of anyone using them, they look nice though, might have to invest.

Theres no chance you're going to have a spare set of front shocks/springs after you've finished working on the new whip youd be willing to sell is there?

There is a good chance that might have some for sale mate. Will prob be making a post in the for sale section with all parts for sale that I don't need before the shell gets weighed in

what killed the other car off?

Head gasket went. So a mate came to fix it he got as far as the head bolts and one of them was goosed. So he said he couldn't fix it and that I'd have to get a garage to do it

Instead I got my hands on a re thread tool and me and my girlfriend decided to do it are selves ( she has a mechanics degree which is very useful )

We stripped the head off checked the thread on the one that the goosed head bolt came out of with one of the other head bolts and turned out there was nothing wrong with the thread so we carried on. Skimmed head and block ect put everything back together and started the car

Car started first time no problem and was running sweeter than before the gasket went. Turned car off and restarted two more times to check oil and on the third time the engine was running for a couple mins then cut out and wouldn't start again

Then we found out that my mate had loosen the bolt on the cam and before he left had not tighten it back up. This made the engine jump off the timing and goosed the valves and prob a piston.

As only paid £200 for the car 2 years ago it couldn't justify getting the engine sorted and needed a new car ASAP to get to work

Hence buying the above Polo and lesson learnt don't ask a mate to help fix your car just do it myself with me girlfriend 😆

thats a bit of a pain though, especially not tightening the cam retaining nuts up again

thats why I do as much as i can to my own car, other people don't care if they bodge it about

Today been a productive day

1) changed spark plugs and leads

2) changed thermostat and thermostat housing

3) changed air filter and box

4) changed rocker cover and gasket

5) changed breather pipe that comes off the rocker cover and goes down to back of engine and upto air filter box

6) changed oil and oil filter

7) drained all water and replaced with fresh water and anti freeze

8) changed door pins for my rat ones

9) changed window winders for my beetle ones

10) changed sunvisor for my black ones

11) installed my radio

12) changed dizzy

Carry on again tomorrow stripping old Polo of big things ready to start fitting into new Polo over the weekend along with taking spare parts off the engine that I've not swapped over today

Does anyone know the best way to remove the bump strips on the doors ?

Also has anyone ever attached a set of DTM wing mirrors to there polo on here ? Seen pictures of them on a few Polos but not seen any build threads with them attached yet

Today I've swapped the boot lids so I no longer have a massive dent in the boot 😂

Wasn't an easy job though as we had to get a piece of wood and a big hammer to straighten the boot back to perfect so the other boot lid would close proper

The old owner girlfriend must of hit the back of the car with some force as it took a lot of hitting to get it back straight again but we got there in the end

Also stripped a few more parts off my old car ready to post to there new owners 😉

If anyone else needs anything let me know ASAP as car will be off to be weighed in next weekend and once it's gone it's gone for good

No not me mate I use to have Novas and a beetle back in the day

Tuesday was spent taking seats harnesses and roll cage out of old polo then stripping the new polo of all the seat belts and seats

Then tried to fit my roll cage only to hit a big problem ! It wouldn't fit due to the new polo having a sunroof. So work grinded to a holt

Until this morning when I found a welder that was local who for £20 cut an inch off either side of the roll cage and re-welded the base plates back on for me

Got it back home and bingo it fitted perfect. So tonight was spent bolting the cage in and my new rear strut brace and rear bench back in. By time finished it was 9pm and couldn't be bothered messing around getting the seats in. That's tomorrow's job and will get some pictures of it all complete
