The Nightshift

Featured Replies

Who is sad enough to be on here during the night then?

If so why?

Me, I'm on here at this time as I work nights and have access to a computer, which happens to be connected to the internet....and this forum is better than the utter rubbish that comes up on my Facebook news feed.

  • Pretty much constantly on days :( Although I'm on nights next week. More chance to get stuff done, ess traffic, less customers, less managers, less bored people looking for a way to annoy me, in fact

I'm working nights on the railway, but I don't get on track until about 1:30 and I get to work for 11:00.

So what I do with my time is sit on clubpolo on tapatalk playing refresh timeline and praying there is a new thread to read.

That's how sad I am. And Facebook is crap so is twitter and everything lol I deactivated my Facebook and reactivate every now and then to check polo 1-3 owners

Your not the only one lol

Pretty much constantly on days :(

Although I'm on nights next week. More chance to get stuff done, ess traffic, less customers, less managers, less bored people looking for a way to annoy me, in fact, just less people, which is good... don't like people.

I work late evenings, sometimes finish work at 2am. My sleeping pattern is no better than it was when I was in college

And I like the brake light and similarly-leveled threads, if I can answer em it makes me feel like I actually know something about cars :D

What is it you do yeti if you dont mind me asking? I'm the same in terms of preferring night time for driving though. Less prats about doing 65mph on the outside lane of a 3-4 lane bloody motorway. Thing with london is traffic can be free flowing and plenty of room for drivers but they still chose to barricade all lanes by doing the same speed as eachother so nobody can get past.

...I dont like people either.

Pretty much sums up why I chose to go onto nights. It is just me and one or two other people in the office, we all get on fine and help each other out, there no back stabbing between us (seems to be the main goal of those on days), we solve all the issues that dayshift couldn't handle with like 80% less staff.

I myself am a lot less stressed because there is no one that annoys me. Plus the icing on the cake, I get to pretty much do what I want, when I want and I get paid a decent amount more than the guys on days.

The same counts for me ross,
on dayshift from 2pm - 10pm and on nightshift from 10pm - 6am not a lot to do.
i just have to observe our company owned grid-system and sometimes at night to switch off and on the tramwire.
So 7 monitors in front of me, means one monitor more or less makes no difference.
So my good old notebook and a huge lte-flatrate, and the internet is mine.
facebook? The internet is that huge, i don't need that.
On nightshift i indeed get more reasonable things done than at home in my freetime, cos i have to sit at the desk for 8 hours anyway, so i can choose.... counting cheeps or read a book or watching tv or get something sensible done. For example as i did last week with sorting out pictures from the poloshow, i have to sort them, resize them, sign them, upload and link them on my webspace.
That example is work for nearly two hours, such stuff i like to do on quiet nightshifts, i don't sit down for two hours at my desk at home for that.

Also browsing all my favorite VW pages on the web, including this forum here.

So hang on mate.

cheers

Christian

Work for myself doing all manner of (usually probably pointless) shit for retailers and suppliers.

Last week I was putting signs up, tomorrow I'm looking for lost biscuits, next week I'm overseeing some remerchandising work for two different competing companies who are doing the same work in the same company in different branches.

I get variety, I pretty much choose what I do and when I do it. it saves me getting a real job, and I probably spend a third of my time getting paid to drive about.

I have now lost all ability to sleep within the hours of darkness.

Out of curiosity, did you find the biscuits?

Always. Generally, they were exactly where they were supposed to be.

Your not alone there yeti.

I read a couple times now that us nightshifters live a considerably shorter life too. I need to change my profession.

I find the same. Far too easy to sleep late on into the day now and when it comes to going to bed at night I'm wide awake!

I came to the conclusion ages ago that it's not the nightshifts that shorten your life, it's the crap we eat while we're going them.

And the amount we drink when we're trying to convince our brains to feel sleepy at half ten at night.

  • Author

I don't drink, but my consumption of McDonalds and microwave ready meals has gone up a fair bit.

Can definitley agree on the food being a factor. I've had so many mcdonalds, kebabs and crap since working nights as making food before work is a Ball ache.

What's better than being on nights?

I've got late shifts til Xmas!

Lay in as long as I want, or have the morning to myself, quiet roads for half the working day, and unwind time in the middle of the night while the world's asleep.

Yep, that's me happy :D

I'm on here a lot late, but I'm still not working and I've always enjoyed the solitude of the night so no urgent need to get up means I'm still often here.

Didn't realise you were out of work dude. Give me a shout if you want and I'll hook you up with some of the firm's I work for, you’ve got the retail experience so you'll take to it easy enough.

Downside of being on lates, I'm on days as well today :-(

So here we are again. Night shift and computer all night catching up on my work from the holidays.

Why do we have to work to earn a living :(

I worked nights for a year in a mental health hospital on a gap year - seriously I've still not recovered from it, I could never compensate for losing sleep at night.

Morning all
