Watch out for Aviva

Featured Replies

Just found out I've been charged around an extra £300 for my insurance by Aviva!!!

I swapped vehicles on my policy a few months ago and have since found out when you swap vehicles they remove any No claims discount from the policy!!!

This is not the first issue with them that I've had.

3 Years ago I was driven into, (3rd parties fault) and Aviva had the cheek to turn round to me and tell me I had to except responsibility because the 3rd party insurance said it was my fault?! This then turned into the most drawn out insurance argument I've known and was only concluded in my favour in May this year!

Beware of the cover they offer as they will duck and dive to avoid any payout and also "lose the details" of an accident you've had so claim they can't pay for the loses as "there's no evidence you've been insured with them". They will not fight your corner on an insurance claim.

And they scam you out of your money when you're not looking, so I will be going after my £300 refund tomorrow and itll be the last time I ever use them.

I don't see how it is possible for an insurance company to lose documents these days. Everything is either typed then printed or sent by email. Surely these files are saved somewhere? But as said mo

Problem is that 99% of car insurance companies are just basically brokers. I've heard this from aviva before somewhere I think where they had lost documents etc. It must be a common tactic but I would threaten court action if they don't pay up as that is no excuse. That is their responsibility to hold records of all their customers. Atleast you will have paid them money for insurance so that is proof enough on your bank statement should you fight it.

I have always gone elephant and admiral and they are the same group...again just brokers really but touch wood I haven't had to deal with an accident or any claim yet.

But as said most companies are just brokers and you'll find the cost of changing vehicles is very expensive these days no matter who you are with. Although £300 is very excessive.

I used to like the Admiral group, but I had one incident with them that put me right off. I tried to change vehicles the day after paying a monthly installment, which at the time was like £80-£90, they wanted a stupid amount to change vehicles. So I got quotes online and found a deposit for a new policy with someone else was much cheaper. I asked to cancel the Admiral policy immediately and they had the cheek to ask for £120. Even though I had just paid money for a month I wasn't going to use. They at first refused to cancel the policy without payment, I said I would pay the week after....which I never did. They chased me for 3 years for that money!

I've always used brentacre. I've had a claim through them before and they couldn't have been better. Even though the car was a write off and worth about £700 they sorted out the recovery truck straight away and had my car transported from Liverpool to Dundee! The pay out was quick and easy and they let me keep the car. Good guys.

There wasnt an actual cost for the vehicle change, it was the fact they removed my no claims so the premium shot up 300 odd quid and they charged it!!

Anyway this was resolved this morning!

When the vehicle change was made the person that done it "forgot to still include the No claims discount on the policy" How the hell this happens I'll never know as you would actually have to physically remove the No claims from the policy as I hadn't stated for that part to be changed so shouldn't have been affected in anyway??

Just a ploy to grab as much cash as they can I guess.
