I would like to fit polybushes to the bottom arms on the front of my 1.4 6N. Both front and rear bushes.

After looking around for options / ideas , I thought that Superpro bushes seem like the best bet. But are they available for this model ?

I tried to pm Phil J but no response as yet.

It looks like you cant get Superpro bushes for the 6N hatch bottom arm. You may be able to get the front ones but not the rear. I'm waiting to hear if you can get the front ones.

Can anyone recommend any other Polybushes for the 6N bottom arm ? I used to think that Powerflex were pretty good, but it appears that they're not.

Has anyone had any experience with the red Polybush bushes that are on Ebay ?

My 6N has done about 124k now and will have the original bushes in the rear beam. They look like such a beast of a bush that I'm wondering if it is worth putting poly ones in the rear ?

Are they worth doing ? for nippy road work ? Has anyone replaced some high mileage rear beam bushes with poly and noticed a significant improvement ?

i done some on a high milage golf , the old ones werent terrible , but yeah you could notice it felt a bit newer to drive

not sure id bother until they need replacing though

I'll jack it up and get a pry bar in there to see how much movement there is.

Part of me is hoping they are a bit knackered. I guess it might be a bit of a pain in the arse job but it would be good to notice a distinct improvement.

Can you get front lower arms without new bushes already fitted ? I think I need to replace one of them. Are Lemforder the best to go with ?

Well, I've had it confirmed that Superpro do make the lower arm front bush, but not the rear. Why they have done one and not the other ? who knows ?

One thing that is a bit confusing about the rear polybushes is that the stock ones have a metal band round them and the replacement polybushes dont. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be ?

Having a bit of a nightmare with this. I ordered both front and rear bushes for the bottom arms. Polybush for the rear and Superpro for the front. The Polybush rears come with the wrong tubes. Too narrow and too short. The Superpros are too long for the 6N. The company I ordered from are trying to sort it out but its dragging on a bit now. They've offered me Powerflex for the front :(

I dont want to fit Powrflex as I've read that they are a bit too harsh for the road and quality aint that great. Dimensions not very accurate etc.

Has ANYONE ! on here fitted upgraded bottom arm bushes to a 6N ? Can I have some input please as its starting to do my efin head in a bit :) I really thought this was going to be straightforward.

I have at last got some Superpro bushes for the front of the bottom arm. Now here's the problem... The stock front bush in the new arm is not symetrical. It has a 2mm wide shoulder at one end and an 8mm wide one at the other.

The Superpro bushes are the right length and diameter but, they are symetrical with a 5mm shoulder at each end.

To my way of thinking, they should be the same dimensions as the originals. I dont want to fit them all squashed up tight at one end and a bit of a gap at the other. Superpro bushes arent cheep and I reckon they should be a better fit.

Or does it not matter ?

I could either stay with these or go for Polybush or Powerflex and hope they have the same 2-8mm shoulders. Has anyone fitted Poly bushes to a 6N who may be able to give me some advice ?

Looking at some complete bottom arms for sale, some have the non symetrical front bush, like the Lemforder for example and others do not. What do the satandard VW ones have ?

I have replaced a standard front bush before and cant recall it having different width shoulders. Looking at images online for standard front bushes, they are all symetrical, or seem to be.

Heeelp.... Someone must be able to shed a bit of light on this for me ? ? ?

I tried super pro bushes before and imho where way to harsh, but I guess poly bushes are harder.

I too had a problem fitting the front bushes because the shaft was too long.

As long as the shaft is the same length as the original bushing then it should be fine. All the poly bushes I have used have thick shoulders that match up to the shafts length meaning the arm can't move much side to side.

Have you fitted both and offered the wishbone up to the subframe? It may sit slightly different but should still line up fine?

No, I've not fitted them up yet. I wanted to fit them into new arms but thats where the confusion started, as the bushes in the new arms are different dimensions. I might ditch the new arms and just put the new bushes in the old arms.

It seems that the front bush mount on the new arms I bought are about 3 mm further forward than the originals.

They will be fitting now, even if it takes bit of brute force and ignorance. I just hope they're not too harsh.

See how it goes buddy, but personally I won't use polyurethane bushes for the wishbones or top mounts etc I do think they are awesome on the anti roll bar and links though. Top mounts and lower engine mount also ruin it for me. That said I did fit them all at once so maybe it was a combination.

Not much to gain by using new arm really, other then them being shiny but a lick of paint will sort that out. The best bet is to fit them and offer it up really. If your using the car daily then an idea would be to get a used pair and then try to fit them, that way if for whatever reason they don't fit then your not stuck.
