Hi all , am sick of grey faded bumpers on my mk2f in the passed I have used boiled linseed oil but would like to attack it from another angle ie spray paint . So who has done it ? 2k is out of the question as not got the correct set up etc. Rattle can job is the way for me , has anyone gone down this route if so please share ? I do not want to use heat gun either or peanut butter or olive oil...

I was thinking maybe plastidip it's a plastic rubber coat spray paint ?

HB Body texture bumper paint is really good, I've used it in black on my T3 grilles, see here on ebay (you can get it in grey too):

I wouldn't go with rattle canning them. It'll look ok for a while but always started to peel no matter how I prepped it.

The bumpers on my mk3 were faded to grey with white stress marks on them. I used forever black on them and they're like new.

A few friends had difficulty using it but I had the bumpers off, washed them with the proper solution, dried them completely then applied the forever black. They did them outside on the car so was almost impossible to have the bumper totally dry so it streaked if water ran down.

Most rattle can paint is acrylic, which you can't use. Because it'll flake off. You need to use vinyl rattle can paint. Bumper-specific rattle can paint tends to be vinyl. Doesn't matter if it's bumper specific or not, just check it's vinyl. Clean the bumper with 2K thinners (you won't melt it), then paint straight to it.

Mine are starting to get tired, got a little peeling here and there (killed the back bumper with a chemical spill). But then, i painted them 8-9 years ago with just one coat..

My front bumper was sprayed and not flaked after about 6 months...the back did but I sprayed to close.

Is thus the stuff ?

That's it mate. It's been on the car for about 6 months now and lives outside in the sun/rain etc and doesn't get any special wash treatment and no fading or coming away. Best 13 quid I've spent on the car.

Although it is worth mentioning that the bumpers are meant to be grey.

I'm thinking of going down the plastidip route...

It flexes well so shouldn't chip. Should last a while if done right too.

So my forever black came today so I whipped rear bumper off and gave it a degrease and a wash with solution that came in the kit its drying out in workshop now till tomorrow then it get's the black dye.. Before shots ..

When this dries it feels like a normal bumper. Ni greasy, stickiness to it at all. Just looks new and feels the same

Righto, I'll give this a whirl before I try plastidip then, just to see

I suppose it depends on the application, and age of the car. And like you say, personal opinion.

I personally quite like some of the fully plastidip'd cars I've seen. Like the matte look.

The forever black I used is as thick as brown sauce and you apply it on the sponge applicator that comes with the kit then apply to bumper.. You do not need a lot as it spreads quite far. I think maybe with one bottle you could do both bumpers and trim if you have it along with the window mirrors.

It took me 10 mins for 1st coat I left it over night and gave it a 2nd coat but we will see when it is back on car and in day light how it looks..

It goes very far. I did my front and rear bumper tops, rear bumper bottom, spoiler, 2 arch trims, 2 side trims and scuttle panel on my mk3 Golf and have half a bottle left. Looking forward to your results

Never got chance today with fitting rear bumper back on as weather was pants fingers crossed for tomorrow ...
