Yeah I have the mechanisms, handles, and even the door looms without the connector for the electric motors if you want em (although they don't have central locking either). Only thing I'm keeping is the door cards with the holes in em as I've just blanked em out with rubber gromets, unless you want to swap

 

But of course, me being me and all, there was always going to be at least one questionable mod.

 

I wanted a chrome grill, but I also wanted to keep the front badge. And rather than spend £20 on pre-cut trims from ebay, I decided to use some leftover vinyl from the mk2f and wrap it myself.

 

Before

 

Took like an hour to cut out each individual strip because I couldn't use a heat gun on chrome, so had to manoeuvre around every little plastic bit. Lot of trial and error.

A couple bubbles visible from the top because of the reflection underneath the top strips, but it looks ok from a distance and if nothing else it's good practice for when I wrap Dora.

 

And if anyone doesn't like it, I'm pretty sure it'll only last until the next jet wash

And I finally found some OEM floor mats, which are on their way

 

 

16v seats are soooo much better than any other 6n seat I think! Well worth the purchase.

 

I'm not a fan of the chrome grill, looks a bit Ali G. But it looks well done at least :)

I had to double take when i saw the tag picture for your thread. Your 6N is coming along nicely i see, I'm not a fan of the silver grill too but hey if we all like the same things in life we would have no individuality.

It really isnt an issue having your car looking the same as mine but i have a few changes ahead:

Red and Grey 16V seats;

16V rear bumper ;

Black GTI centre caps

I'm on the lookout for a 16V front bumper but I'm tempted to find a front bumper from another make and graft it on to another standard 6N bumper and rework that one. I have a few ideas

I agree there were a few more options for straight fit seats, but I think 16vs are the most sensible - not quite OTT as some leather/colour concept 6n2s for half the cost of the car, but a nice and fairly subtle upgrade.

 

As for the chrome grill, it was a good effort but my perfectionist side couldn't handle it once the vinyl started to loosen and the bubbles on the underside became more visible. Ultimately I decided to re-do the whole thing, but gave in and bought the pre-cut strips just to see if they were any good. I still don't think they were worth 20 quid for 8 little chrome strips, but the quality of what I bought did surprise me. And unlike the vinyl they're just on the ends of the grill, which gives it more of a factory look.

Ooh sounds good, looking forward to it I'm also keeping an eye out for a 16v front bumper as well, and there are a couple other subtle things I wouldn't mind - dark grey/black carpet, dash and door cards would complete the interior I think.

 

And front fogs are always nice to have. Maybe even some projector headlights wouldn't look too bad. Hell, there are coilovers for under £100 out there. Dammit all I needed was a cheap daily that I didn't need/want to spend too much on, a 6n was a very poor choice of vehicle for that purpose

The revised grill looks better. I have been advised to sell my polo since my knee op but i see it on my drive and can't do it

nooo don't sell the polo

 

Some 16v seats might help with that actually. Unlike the normal ones the whole seat can tilt back, which gives a bit more leg room without having to move the seat. Might be helpful somehow?

I'm fighting the urge to but in case i have to i have found a Honda HRV, a Honda Civic and a Mercedes C180 all low mileage. Oh and an E30 BMW but that is down South

Again thats only if i have to sell my 6N. Its not often a low miler comes along thats had no welding so you can see my struggle with knee and car

Ooh. As a daily with practicality and a knee op in mind, I'd go with the Merc. I do like the E30s, but if I had one (or even a Civic) I'd clean my bank account trying to mod it within a week

In an attempt to get this thing looking presentable for the nw meet this weekend I bought some paint. The plan was to do the wheels and the nearside arch, but I only got around to the wheels (may do arch tomorrow though)

 

 

My new alloys weren't *too* bad but they had their fair share of scratches/kerb rash. This was the worst of the lot

 

 

The plan was to use body filler to fix em and then paint. But then I realised to do the edges I needed the tyres off, so I skipped that bit.

 

While the wheels were off I took the opportunity to paint the calipers for some extra BHP

 

 

In the process of sanding the primer, my electric sander broke, which ended any chance of getting a decent result from these. Scratches are visible upon closer inspection because I didn't fully understand the concept of filler primer, but they're better than they were anyway.

 

 

On a completely unrelated note, I found some christmas lights in the garage and decided to use my old wheel trims and do some decorating

 

 

Wheels painted. I painted the centre caps to match and took the old stickers (or what was left of em) off. Have some new ones on the way which may or may not arrive before the meet.

 

 

I also touched up a bit of the car's paintwork here and there (notably below the fuel flap), and gave the cam cover and heat shield some high temp aluminum

 

 

 

Wheels done. Not perfect, but when is my painting ever any good

 

Got my paycheck last weekend, let's see if I can not waste it all on more stuff for the 6n this mon--

 

Dammit.

 

I've always thought projectors would be a nice tasteful addition to my 6n's theme, and recently I caught sight of a pair of chrome headlights with angel eyes. Made an offer and they showed up today, so it was off to the garage.

 

 

I had gotten this far - os headlight replaced, when I realised 2 things.

 

1- these were black, not chrome

2- these had LED strips, not angel eyes

 

talk about a lack of attention to detail but I had already done the soldering and the old headlight was a bit damaged during removal (rusted screws, not my fault). And driving around without headlights while waiting for a refund/replacement wasn't an option when I'm an evening driver, so I figured ehh I'll live with it. Why does nothing ever go according to plan.

I guess the OEM+ thing has gone out the window. All right, who's got cheap coilovers for sale

Grille looks good with the new strips, nice seats too. I prefer standard headlights because I'm boring lol. But this is coming along nicely

More like the factory ones with the chrome, and would have suited the white car a lot better I think... meh, too late now

I do agree with you that the angel eyes/chrome lights would look better on the white car, I think these would suit more if the grille went back to black though as it would blend in more, maybe even a debadged one? I am impressed with how this is coming along though, just needs lowering now

I think to make em suit I'd need:

- Remove the chrome strips from the grill (nooo I spent £20 on those dammit)

- Paint the alloys black (I don't like the refurb anyway, bit too grey now)

- Get matching black rear lights

 

I have a thing against debadging though - proud to own a VW Polo 1.0 L and people must know it 

 

It's a tough call though - I *really* like angel eyes and a set of the chrome ones I originally wanted have popped up on facebook for sale. It turns out the black ones I have are actually selling for around £250, which is a surprise! If I can sell my nearly new set for say £220 then I can put £100 to the angel eyes and still have enough for something like a cheap set of coilovers. I think this is a better option... thoughts?

I think you should keep the chrome strips to be a bit different and hold out for the chrome angels too :)

I'd personally keep the lights you have and just make them work. I think with a 16v bumper and a hit with the lowering stick that would all add up to a decent, slightly aggressive look.

Problem is bumpers and sticks are expensive, and I have £200+ in lights that I don't particularly want 

 

I'll put up some sale posts and see if there's any interest in mine - if I can sell em on then I'll get the chrome ones. Hell they do black projectors with angel eyes for about the same price which I'd rather have than the LEDs, and still get the aggressive look. In the meantime though bumper and a drop sounds good, and I think repainting the wheels black anyway isn't a bad idea.

 

Also I have to wire up this thing.
