Buying & Selling on the forum

Featured Replies

The vast majority of transactions on the forum complete without a hitch. We are aware that some do not go as planned for various reasons. Most people are aware of the points below, but as we are attracting new followers, some of whom are also new to online buying and selling, here are a few recommendations.

As a Buyer

  • Don't use PayPal Gift ( aka Friends & Family ) when you pay for goods. You are not protected if something goes wrong.
  • Don't pay by Bank transfer for the same reason above.
  • Request a Postal receipt fro the seller showing when the item was posted.
  • Confirm you have received the goods, or inform the seller if something went wrong.

As a Seller

  • Don't request to be paid by PayPal "Gift" and don't be a cheapskate demanding the buyer to pay the fees. If your that desperate to save a couple of quid, include the fees in your asking price.
  • Always obtain proof of postage. It shows when you posted the item with the destination post code.
  • Even better, always send recorded delivery. This is a requirement for PayPal Seller Protection.
  • Only ship to the address linked to the buyers PayPal account. This is also a requirement for the PayPal Seller Protection.
  • Always insure items you post, unless you're willing to suck up the damage in case of loss. Special Delivery includes insurance up to £50, extra insurance can be added.
  • Confirm shipment of the item(s) and what shipping method you used.
  • Keep a note of serial numbers or identifying features of the item (s) you sell. It's not unheard of that the "Faulty" item that was returned, wasn't the item (s) you sent.
  • If you're delayed in sending the item(s) Immediately inform the buyer. Depending on the extent of the delay consider offering a refund.
  • Do not ship the item(s) until you have received the payment.

Always communicate with each other, "I have paid" or "I have despatched the item on.. " Save these communications, at least until the transaction is complete and you're happy.

Please keep in mind, items can be damaged during transit, so make sure you package the items securely, and if you're about to receive an item in a badly damaged box/bag refuse to accept it.
