Seen a black mk2 coupe with mk1 golf coilovers on, can anyone tell me if they just go straight on my coupe or is there changes to be made to mine?

Do you mean the rears? If so yes I believe they are just a bolt on job. Although I remember something about extra washers for the rear beam.

Agree with kwijibo with the rears but the fronts are nowhere close to a direct fit. The hub and strut on a mk2/mk3 polo is built in one so "cheap" coilovers as such arent around they are £350+ due to the fact the hub section has to be welded on. Unless you're a competent welder/fabricator, mk1 golf coilovers will not fit on the front.

Could go all out a buy some Gaz coilys, (I think it's Gaz) they're just short of £1k XD

Just a quick extra to this, I know like everyone you'll probably be on a budget for your polo. But I would recommend not getting the budgetist of budget springs and shocks unless you dont mind sacrificing quite a bit of ride quality for the lows.

Yeah mate on a mega budget for this lol £160 for springs and shocks online from Germany, I want it as go kart as possible lol my polo just needs flinging round corners, I hate having to lean against my car while cornering lol

I've got Gaz coilovers on my GT and they are well worth the money. I'm lower than the lowest of the cheap spring and shock kits but the ride is very good all things considered.

As for mk1 Golf fronts you can fit them if you get a set of mk1 Golf GTI hub carriers to bolt them on to. But you'll need to weld the Polo steering arms onto the coilovers or you'll have no steering.

You could also look into making your own coilovers. You can get the stuff from Rally Design. But again a bit of welding is required.

I've got the cheapest of the cheap and they ain't so bad. Hard and not exactly supple but I'm happy with 'em for the price. On German ebay, an AP full set can be had for £100, but I can't find the link - someone posted it up on here, so do a search and you'll find it. The biggest clue to the cheapness of my kit (Bad Grip Performance they're called, if you can believe such a stupid name!) is that it gets lower and lower. Started off on a 60mm drop on the front, 6 months later and it's more like 80mm.
