XH558 Last Vulcan

Featured Replies

As you might know, this magnificent piece of British engineering has now been retired to be a museum display :(

Sunday 29th 19:30 Channel 4 are screening a "Last Flight of XH558" with Guy Martin, should be a good watch :)

Never saw one fly in person :(

That's why it should remain a flying aircraft & not a museum exhibit! along with Concorde & BAC Lightning.

Watching Concorde taking off from Manchester airport at night with full re-heat a sight I'll never forget & as a 10 year old (1970's) watching a Lightning display, along the runway at 50' then pulling full up and hitting the re-heat it went vertical till it disappeared in the sky, Magic !!

I drove at brake neck speed to get to North Weald and see its last fly over as I only found out about it with little notice.

I took my 9 year old daughter. I saw a vulcan at a display some time in the 80's with my late father and it was an experience, it flew low and the whole ground felt like it was shaking and the noise was terrific.

My daughter wasn't paying attention on this occasion, then when it flew over she was amazed and after said it was awesome.

A fantastic, powerful and majestic bit of engineering that I wanted to see one last time.
