This being my third polo, the first 2 being 6ns I thought it was about time I started a build thread. So I've always wanted a coupe and couldn't help myself when this one popped cheap and local. I paid £250 for it which I am really happy with.

She's a 5 speed 1.3 CL Model, with around 88k on the clock. only 2 previous owners the first of which was a Nun ( and I'm not joking) and second owner being an old lady that was scared of using 5th gear, so its safe to say its had a fairly easy life!

The body work isn't great with rust in the usual spots but this really doesn't bother me, and adds to the charm for me! and unfortunately someone's gone into the back of it meaning I need a new boot lid! It hasn't been cleaned for many years so I'm sure it'll come really nice with a polish and a wax.

Engine and gear box are really good a strong, but unfortunately there's almost no service history due to the last owners relative being a mechanic and did it for her. It looks like in the past its had a leak from the rocker cover seal, but has since been changed and no longer leaks.

The interior is completely standard, which I have to say wont be for long because I cant stand it

So my plans. first things first, a break over haul and a service. I've already got all the parts needed so I'm hoping to get that done next week end, weather permitting as I don't have a garage to keep it in! It also needs a clutch which will be the next job after the breaks.

I hoping to finish with something, with a nice 60/40 drop on some BBS Mahles with a completely different interior with a nice audio set up. And ultimately a really nice strong daily driver. I will try my best to keep this thread up to date with pictures and info. Only got the one picture for now.

I really like alpine white polo's, looks pretty clean tbf mate and the interior i think that you have In atm is alright I think lol

Have you any pictures of the damage on the boot and an interior shot? Also what are you doing with the brakes? Just replacing standard stuff?

White is definitely one of my favourite colours on these! I just cant get on board with the grey interior haha.

That doesn't look terrible, I wonder if it could be knocked out and then filled and sprayed. That may be cheaper than buying another unless you find a white one for sale

I'd have a go at fixing that one. Doesn't look too bad and the rear screen is good, a new boot lid might not have such a good screen (they tend to lift in the bottom corners)

Looks like a clean Polo overall though.

If you're set on changing the interior go for a G40 one, nice and cheap and by far the most comfortable standard Polo seats I think.

Honestly never tried anything like that so Id probably make a right mess of it, but I'm always up for giving stuff a go. I've been keeping my eye out for a boot lid in colour but no luck yet.

Yep, g40 seats are what I want! I'm new to these cars, so always learning and happy to take any advise on board.

I say give it a go, should be fairly easy when your filling it's just a bit of spraying to see its definitley flat and taking more off then spraying again with primer...it's a bit hard to see when it's still filler if it is flat so it's hit and miss really but you would get there in the end

Sod it, I'll have a crack at it. If I mess it up I'll only be in the same position I was when I started!

Right, so not really an update but I want to keep this thread as up to date as possible. Really struggling to work on the coupe at the moment due to work and awful weather and garage to work in at the moment. Currently worried that the damage to the boot lid might go a bit deep than I first thought, so I need to get the rear bumper off and see how bad it is. All the replacement break parts have been bought and are sat in my bedroom waiting to be fitted, but will need to asess the damage first.

Good news. The damage really sint that bad so I'll be going ahead with my plans. This Saturday I'll be fitting new shoes, pads and disks. Will get some pictures up Saturday evening

So the breaks didn't get done today, as I go called into work. But went over after work and decide to give the bay a quick clean. As I've said, it hasn't been cleaned for years so it was pretty nasty. Pictures below of how I left it. What do everyone done about the scuttle trays? Mines cracked and just not very nice looking. Is there and upgraded stronger one?

You can get new scuttle cover things from VW Heritage, if you can bring yourself to paying £45 for a piece of flimsy plastic with foam underneath.

£45! Jheeze. I think I'll clean my current one up!
