Can't find any FAQ or previous posts on changing the foam in the front seats. Mine are literally down to the wires and I'm having to use a pillow for now.

My question:

Is seat foam universal? If not can you buy foam for mk1-3 polo's? If so where?

The fabric is still in good condition so only foam is needed.

universal -no , gt etc had deeper bolsters than the poverty ones

cheapest way will be find a similar passenger seat , so sport seat or non depending on what you have and rob the foam from that

its pretty easy to swap over , covers are held on with metal ring called hog rings , cut em off with side cutters , ebay will sell you new ones and some pliers , or just use cable ties if youre pikey

I have a gt bready, didn't realise they were different to standard.

I might have a spare pair of front seats in the shed. Grey with coloured triangles...do you know which model there from?

Wonder what a retrim would be if the seats were presented with new foams fitted and no fabric on. Can't be that much surely..I want one myself

trimming costs loads mate

keep an eye on german ebay , I've seen covers for self fitting but they're still out of my range

best bet is to buy up used seats and make a good set out of em all , worst case pay a trimmer to sew in replacement bits from a scrap cover

Cheers Steve, yeah seat trimming prices seem mental. I would have thought it was nowhere near the cost of paint initially.

I'll keep an eye out, I always miss the seats for sale or spot em in a rubbish trim pattern or with burn holes

Put it this way, replacing the drivers bloster vinyl and a small base panel on one of my tombstones cost me £160 and that wasnt including the material

I've done the interior in my breadvan myself in tartan, all thats left is the parcel shelf but glue, tartan and vinyl owes be around £300+ and that was doing all work myself

Special order genuine maclachlan tartan or porsche tartan v2 as it was called in the 70s 911 carreras. was a royal pain in the ass to get hold of and the black vinyl I used was an ebay special but seems to be pretty decent. But I used I bought some glue from a local upholsterer and the warnings pretty much say, Do not use. XD

Erm quite.. I've got plenty experience with a sowing machine and upholstering as I do seats for buses at work, but Id say with a bit of practice and a decent second hand sowing machine anyone can do it

The only thing that gave me hassle on the rear seats was the bits of plastic at the seams, but id guess it wouldnt be hard to do it without

I never knew until i took my seats apart into seperate pieces to measure them, theres plastic pieces and its not in the seam what am I on about!! Its the bit which clips over into the back/back to hold the cover in place. That was a pain in noggin, i had to hand sew that on in the end or it wouldve broken my machine.
