I've got one of those Schabak models, too. Rebuilt it a few years ago (thread here: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=295535)

Read that thread alex, What did you use and do to build the axles up? Did you mount it in the original chassis mounts?

I ordered some 1.6mm dia axles which are what most aftermarket wheels fit already and if not very close lol Was going to spin the ends in a drill and use emery to bring it down about 0.3mm to fit most wheels on but the problem I have is i'm scared to cut the chassis where it holds down the middle of the axle and 1.6mm definitley wont fit through there lol

Donor rally corolla bought and stripped for seats and sequential quick shift or hydraulic handbrake whatever it is supposed to be.

The positioning was trialled with double sided tape before deciding on the position and glueing

Front seats obviously cut out and centre with gearstick sanded for positioning of the sequential quickshift or hydraulic handbrake whatever its supposed to be. I want to believe its gears :)

I realise its a bit close to the dash lol but its fine. You can see the test fitting of minilites too, The body has been roughed up and I've removed all the little bubbles I could find before its painted whatever colour I choose :)

if you want it nice strip the paint off , they use thick paint that spoils the details then plus your paint it will be too thick

dunk it in some brake fluid if you have a bit laying around

Have brake fluid and nitromors, might leave it a day in brake fluid so it practically falls off.

I was just going to paint it lol, didn't think of paint being to thick, might not have been able to close doors if I had just painted it lol

You think it's worth primer before hand?

yah dust a light coat of primer on , let it dry then tickle with some fine paper to remove any dust specs etc

quick question, will bbs wheels from 1/18 scale fit a 1/24 diecast model? or isit to big?

Yeah would be massive...they do it by the inch scaled down too, 17" 1:43 came of the corolla and they are like putting 17s on a polo in real life...way too big lol

I found a site that done a number of 1/24 wheels...can't find em now

often as cheap to buy a whole kit or model and rob its wheels

although if you search there are wheel kits available

That's about the best place for custom mini-VW parts. Very cool!

And in terms of the axles, I just found axles which fitted the wheels and shaved the pegs back on the car until they slotted in. Technically the wheels turn, but not easily.

Cheers Alex, I was going to do that but in case I want to change wheels that require a different smaller axle I was put off lol I think they are mostly 1.6 diameter anyway, Might have to take a 1.6mm drill to the minilites

often if you want lowered or camber look to the wheels you just have to fix them on with some epoxy, yeah they no longer turn but were all beynd zooming them along so it doesnt matter

Just ruined my paint lol

Left in brake fluid overnight so it was bare, dusted in primer and painted. Went on too thick though so the vw and polo logo are just smooth lumps lol

I tried doing it very lightly but by time I could get all the small parts covered the panels started becoming thicker.

Take 2 tomorrow maybe

warm up the body and tape it to a stick or old screwdriver , no harm in light mist coats to get it covered then tickle with some fine paper to smooth it

Got the paint almost spot on, there was something landed on the boot so I had to take it back a bit and then I noticed some other tiny bits so took them back aswell

Just waiting on this light coat drying, might be finished then, the logos on the back are almost flush so it's impossible to see the shape properly. In a few days when it's properly hardened I might try to take them back to metal without touching the rest of the paint

Oh and it's alpine white :)

Got them out of the box today.
